Hello people, I'm fairly a new member here. As you can see with my title name, I ama  religious guy who happens to LOVE many Gaga songs (especially those religiously inclined ones) and my goal is to discuss them here/shed a new light on them, if that is acceptable.

Out of respect for people who are not religious/share same views, I will not discuss certain matters and my goal is to only discuss songs and their themes. I do not wish to offend anyone with these discussions, I respect all and would like feedback from anyone and respectfully communicate with all.

Thank you for understanding. I wanted to make my first post and hopefully this is a good way to start. If you have any important questions you can ask.

well, my favourite songs from gaga are the religious themed trilogy in BTW, Judas - Bloody Mary - Electric chapel, and i think they tell a story about liberation from the shackles of religion to a place of pure spirituality and love, i think they are heavily influenced not only by traditional Catholicism but also by heretical and early views of Christianity and Gnosticism.  If they were not who you were taught they would be, would you still believe?
do you have any insight in those songs?

When u think about religious themes, TFM, and even more prominently, BTW are definetly the albums that comes to mind first. That Gaga, the one with the eyeliner, Negan jackets and crosses, is my favourite. The songs that tackle these themes best are Alejandro, Judas, Electric Chapel and Bloody Mary, but there's some of that in Joanne too (but the Goth aesthetic is sadly gone tho)

I've been thinking about Bloody Mary and it's message. I think it applies to a person who is battling between being "holy" and "human", hence Bloody(human) Mary(saint). I also wanted to do a post on "The Edge of Glory" and how it alludes to the concept of hell in one of the verses but I'll do that later.

i agree, i actually thing that Judas is about the human, the mundane and the sin, Bloody Mary is battling midways between holiness and humanity, and then Electric Chapel is about finally finding the holy in the true places.

i think is also about forgiveness and letting things go "i won't crucify the things you do" but also suffering "when you're gone, i'll still be bloody mary" like come what may, she is still going to bleed, it also explore gender dynamics into religion, as the song is about the iconography of Mary Magdalene and its parallel with gaga herself and the rockstar girlfriend, she's suppossed to be destined to follow Jesus and cry for his departure, but she will not cry for him anymore, even though she'll bleed, she'll find her own path, and her own holiness, mary magdalene is popularly considered to be a prostitute and a sinful woman within mainstream Christianity, but in early Christianity and Gnosticism she was also was view as a prophet and a messiah, she was she most close person to Jesus, but she was washed away by history and orthodoxy...

I love the writing style of gaga, her songs are abstract but consist enough, it's like looking at a painting, beautiful.

I'm learning about early Christianity as well and how many things that mainstream Christianity believe are actually contradictory/ false. What is Gnosticism?

I'm planning how to do it (it'll be long) and mayb an interesting discussion will ensue. I like to read different view points.

The reason I believe people like Mary and Paul the Apostle went to Jesus is because they knew the majority of the population would hate/ kill them for being human and found comfort there. They viewed the injustices of the world.

Just like in the Judas mv, imperfect humans are always the first to hate and throw the stones to those who seem worthless. Here is this man (Jesus) who promises them out of the life they were living with good principles to follow no other man in that era could come up with. They were willing to sacrifice their way of life for that of Jesus, in turn receiving the greatest price of all, eternal life in a new world/ heaven. It was tough but they battled their humanity and in turn conquered the world, just like Jesus did. They are now saints in heaven awaiting the marriage between the new heavens and the Earth and with the King Jesus Christ.
