Suspiria 10,683
Never judge a book by it's cover but... I can sense this being a huge letdown. I fully believe that no music genre is better than another but damn, she has wayyy too powerful a voice to be using it for this monotone speak-singing. And the visuals look very plain and uninteresting too. From the rich and symbolic fantasy that was EMQ to this? Most of her recent stuff has just been her trying to be some Latina reggaeton baddie, why not leave that to actual Latina baddies and stick to your own strengths? She literally has a degree in Flamenco and one of the only voices that have ever made me cry. Why would you throw away what makes you special? She was the most exciting thing to come out of the 2010s for me honestly, and I will be so so disappointed if this is anything other than perfection. I guess we will see. It really disappoints me how much she stopped using her powerful vocals. I'm not asking her to be belting on every song, but the way she's been barely using it in her post-EMQ singles is so sad to me. I always return to Los Angeles and damn her vocals are stunning. I just wish her music can become "intellectually" stimulating again. Don't get me wrong, I'm all for good bops, but I much prefer songs that have more than one layer to them (and sadly this hasn't been the case with her releases for a while now). But she can do what she wants I guess. Soft, soothing, and succulent

Rosalía also has the added interestingness of being from a country that isn't the USA, and so can express a culture that hasn't been overly exploited in the mainstream yet. I really shouldn't be making assumptions based on this tiny clip but it really seems like she's using none of her gifts here, looking and sounding like any talentless generic pop-trap artist who could be from anywhere
Joaco95 1,631
What with the elitists on this thread waiting her to stop doing reggaeton? We know El Mal Querer was like her final degree project so now shes just doing whatever she wants to do, she's not trying to be someone else

Preferring a certain type of music over another is now "elitist"? If you look at her discography, both her albums (Los Angeles and EMQ) are flamenco or flamenco-influenced and I think she excels in that genre a lot more than she does in reggaeton and/or trap music. She has a passion for flamenco, and it's not her "trying to be someone else" when she sings it. If she wants to do reggaeton, good for her, but I won't pretend to love it or to think it showcases her vocal skills because it simply doesn't. Damon 10,904
The name is definitely a choice but damn it looks and sounds pretty interesting, do we know if Arca is involved on this? ... and now i just sit in silence.

I'm stoked she's finally releasing dance music again, she may be like Billie and known for her slower music but stands out with some up tempo, experimental stuff. We know El Mal Querer was like her final degree project so now shes just doing whatever she wants to do, she's not trying to be someone else Hmm so it's elitist to state that songs like TKN and Aute Cuture are obvious downgrades in terms of what she's capable? Have you listened to Los ángeles? Por mi puerta no lo pasen is gut-wrenching. Te venero is astoundingly beautiful yet painful. She went from using Antonio Machado's verses and painting the perfect García Lorca scenery (in Que no salga la luna) to a chorus T-K-Nuh, T-K-Nuh and Esto está encendido, but let us be elitist! I'm not trying to be a "manager" and define what she has to be. That's an exercise for 14-year-olds here. I'm just stating she stands out of the crowd (even when she does reggaeton, it's better and way more tolerable) and I don't wanna see her engulfed by the mainstream machine of the music industry. There's plenty of basic bitсhes out there to do that job, so it'd be a real loss for her talent and potential. Anyway, let's stay hopeful. As I said earlier, she's also released quite good stuff like A palé and Juro que. The album can't come soon enough.

Reggaeton can be equally as powerful/emotional as traditional genres (e.g. her choruses on Relación remix), and even in its most shallow, meaningless manufactured form, dance music serves an important purpose of helping us let go and escape. My issue is just that Rosalía has such unique talents, as well as a knowledge of different Spanish cultures that are not so well known worldwide. And its sad to see her gifts not being used, in favour of making Americanised/international music, with this boring 'street' bad girl look, that everyone else makes, and that barely use her incredible voice.
