Madame X is... unappreciated

For me, Madame X is one of Madonna's greatest artistic achievements. Everything from the looks, the lyrics, the production, and of course the fantastic tour are all superb and something that only a genius like Madonna could pull off at that stage in her career. Plus, how can we ignore that deep social commentary that she makes on the record? God Control alone is one of her best songs, ever and way ahead of its time. This album alongside Like a Prayer and Erotica are THE definitive albums of her career. I'm glad it's finally getting the recognition it deserved on release day.

You remind me that it's such a wonderful thing to love.

I don't get the complain about the auto tune that most people have :bear: But okay. Not her best album but I definitely enjoy it more than MDNA or any of her 80s releases.

A few things...

-This album is very experimental. And very artistic. I didn't enjoy it when it first came out but it grew on me over time after seeing Madame X live and the Paramount+ doc. It literally took me over a year to appreciate it.

-The autotune seems intentional. She has a great voice. She doesn't need to prove it. Why do we deem autotune as bad? She clearly uses it on songs to feel robotic on purpose.

-This album was not intended to top charts or to be a "pop girl" album. It's a statement piece. The lyrics are actually quite brilliant.

-Like any artistic pieces that are unconventional, there will be lovers and haters. She knows this. It's simply not meant for everyone and that is ok. You can appreciate Madonna whether you like the album or not.

-The only song I can't stand personally is I Rise, it's so cheesy.

-Dark Ballet is my favorite along with Crazy

-The marketing was the most exciting I've seen for Madonna in years. It's such a full circle moment. And this album, in my opinion, is the sister to American Life. Her range is really remarkable

Maybe I'm deaf but the only song that is auto-tuned to hell is Dark Ballet, but...it works perfectly for the song :bear: I literally don't hear it on any other song.

MX made me go back and really listen to American Life again; the similarities between the two albums are not as far fetched as some think.

Same! I didn't used to like American Life. But I revisited it and am honestly shocked at how out-there it is. Especially for 2003. The album itself but also the videos and the underlying themes.

There's a reason Madonna is one of my favorite artists. She's brilliant.

I really like this album.

Besides the choice to collab with Quavo, I will never understand why people hated Future so much when it came out. It's one of her best songs.

I think releasing Madame X absolutely was the right step for Madonna after producing three trend-chasing albums (even though I actually really like Hard Candy).

Madame X isn't a bad album, but when you factor in what Madonna has done prior, it is a bit of a let down (at least for me). I love the experimental nature of Madame X, but I feel other albums did it exponentially better (Ray of Light, Music, and American Life).

On the flip side, the songs on Madame X that are tailored for radio just don't live up to M's previous hits.

Again, the album isn't bad ... but Madonna has an INCREDIBLE discography.

Exactly. Her voice doesn't sound robotic at all after that song. :saladga:

I like the album.  If there is autotune it doesn't bother me at all.  And the tour was amazing.

I live outside the space time continuum.

I really wanted to love God Control

But the lyrics were so basic, she was trying to say something much bigger than she was able to write.

I enjoy IDSIF, Killers, and Extreme Occident.
