The end of the beginning - ARTPOP closing the first part of Gaga’s career

I remember back in 2014 someone said Gaga had called ARTPOP the end of the beginning of her career. It makes so much sense, and I’ve always wondered if Gaga had planned it to be since BTW. I’ve found this more interesting given the original concept of ARTPOP was about the decay of the blonde pop star, the character she introduced to us with The Fame. Even though ARTPOP’s concept changed, it’s still very obvious with the sound of the album and the last two tracks that it really was a sort of the end to Lady Gaga as the public knew her. Ever since she’s arguably become more versatile and acclaimed by the public.

I still feel like this would be a great way for her to do a nostalgic era without losing her sense of growth or distance from the past. Like a Ziggy Stardust career phase where she does a concept record about the fall and demise of Candy Warhol. Like a pop art rock opera. That lets her get back in the blonde wigs and character mode but makes clear it's a performance piece about a concept pop star.

absolutely, she was a visionary, and very self aware of herself and the public, since the fame she already had concept of ARTPOP in the early stage all in her head, it's so sad she never got to fully developed her full vision, we were robbed, candy warhol was supposed to return in ARTPOP.

you just described the born This Way Ball Tour, it is practically her version of the Ziggy Stardust story.

Born This Way is not a concept album about the decline and death of a blonde star. I'm not saying she should do the Ziggy Stardust story. Just that she could revisit the Candy Warhol character as a phase in her career, like Ziggy Stardust was a phase in Bowie's larger career.

BTW the tour, is an extension of the album, it tells the story of an alien that infiltrates the human race in order to save them from themselves and free them from societies chains and hence create a new race of actualized individuals, it's the exact same story of the Ziggy stardust myth, and the show is in fact an electro pop art rock opera.

She explored the concept of the decline and death of the plastic blonde star in the fame/TFM, she said that the fame was a concept album, and ARTPOP was meant to be a follow up of it, but it never got into fruition, it has strong storytelling in it, remember that telephone part. 3 was meant to be in ARTPOP, the difference is that, for Bowie, Zyggy Stardust was a character he played to portray the decay of the plastic rockstar in archetype of an alien savior, but gaga explored the concept of the plastic blonde superstar through herself as a performance art piece and not through Candy Warhol, she distorted the archetype, flipped it and exaggerated it to a bizarre point, just like Bowie did it before through Zyggy, remember back in the day everyone thought that Stefani was playing a character with Lady Gaga. And then she added the alien messiah myth part later when she released born this way.

Gaga herself said the her whole career was practically a tribute to david bowie and it is true in many ways.
