Was ASIB inspired by Adele?

It’s no surprise that ASIB OST had Whitney Celine and Mariah as inspirations but do we think that Gaga and team were somewhat inspire by Adele too? 

Adele is indisputably the most successful artist with this kind of rock ballad/ adult contemporary sound in recent memory so it would have made sense to take some inspiration from 21.

I’m not by any means saying Adele invented these sounds since you can obviously tell Adele was inspired by Elton, Aretha and Stevie among others but she definitely repopularize it

Adele may be popular but I wouldn't call her groundbreaking or revolutionary so no. Again, the fast food comparison is apt. McDonald's didn't invent hamburgers, they didn't change them in any way, never made them any better or worse, but they sure do sell a lot of them.

If anything, she and ASIB (genre wise, I guess) have the same inspirations. But the pop/rock ballads thing is such a general and wide genre that it'd be difficult to name any one artist as an inspiration behind the project's music as a whole.

I feel like the only name that would have even come up while they were writing the music was Whitney Houston for I'll Never Love Again.

also Look What I Found is literally a Gaga interpretation of a Stevie Wonder song and we know Gaga loves Stevie. I’ll Be Waiting gives string Stevie vibes too.

I didn't say you did? All I said was she didn't revolutionize the genre so I'm not sure why she would be an inspiration at all when she never brought anything new to the table.

Like I said, they'd share inspirations if anything. The classic artists you mentioned but especially Whitney.

Honestly, Look What I Found sounds more like an Amy Winehouse song, which is something I love about it. I'm not sure I see Adele on it, more like just Whitney and maybe Celine. Idk maybe Adele's popularity had a little to do with the way people received the A Star Is Born soundtrack, we don't know.

No way. I love Adele, but the only song that sounds like Adele is Shallow in that it has a powerful chorus, but even Aura and Diamond Heart have that same style, just from a pop music lens. ASIB is much more Americana influenced whereas Adele is mostly inspired by soul music.

There’s no doubt that kind of sound sells MILLIONS like ASIB sold like 10 million albums in this current streaming climate. I still can’t process that amount  unbelievable

I wonder if Gaga released a Pop-Ballad record after the immense success of ASIB with collabs from Beyonce and Ariana (as ballads ofc), instead of Chromatica how much more successful it would have been? Or the fans would've been like

As someone upthread said: ASIB is clearly based in Americana blues/pop/rock. Adele is more pop neo soul. Certainly cousins of sorts. But different enough to really not be in the same world or worthy of comparison.

That said, if Gaga wants another 10 million seller album? Feed us the bluesy ballads that we need!

Actually 21 is very based on Americana rock and country that she heard while in the US promoting 19
