luxoricious 144
I'm watching it right now. Through episode 3. I'm liking it so far, but does it have any horror element on it? It's so slow and nothing besides that girl who got killed on the prologue appearing by night seems to be scary.

Oh trust me, if you’re not on episode 6 or 7 just yet, then you will see that the horror will come. I don't understand pineapples, so I don't eat bananas. CCSir 400
Just finished it. Wow. This is the first Flanagan show that really sticks the landing for me. Hill House stumbled in the end, although it had enough stellar material in the first five episodes alone to leave a lasting impression. I wasn't very impressed with Bly Manor. But this, this is something else. Very satisfying ending, perfect balance between questions answered and mysteries left behind. That scene spoke volumes about human nature, that's why it's so unnerving I think. There's nothing more terrifying than the idea that one could so easily lose one's moral compass in the face of peer pressure and mob mentality, to the point of behaving like that. Goes on to show how important it is to have solid critical thinking. On 9/26/2021 at 6:54 PM, Quasi said: I know what you are referring to and I found that odd as well. But without giving anything away, it will make sense pretty soon That was kind of my only point of improvement that they could have done better with that person's makeup haha, you could sort of tell this was where the character was going before it happened just because of the poor makeup. Some of my spoiler-y thoughts below: Spoiler - I kind of liked how they didn't feel the need to really explain the angel. So many horror stories get too focused on the monsters or the creatures, but the angel was very secondary to the show. The real baddie was Bev, and for me it made sense to center the show on the characters' internal dilemmas, as ultimately that's what drove the action of the last two episodes, not the angel. - They did a good job at representing a variety of spiritualities equally, and how we're all equal in the face of death. Obviously the show is a critique of the fanatical aspects of organized religions, but it also lets the characters explore their own perception of death and whether or not there is an afterlife. I'm personally atheist and I align with Riley (and ultimately Erin) on the subject. - Nice touch that Warren and Lisa were the only survivors. All the islanders are equal in the face of death, but the island itself survives in the form of young love, which is probably what true immortality is, the future generations.
