PawsUpJago 1,956
Just wondering if anyone else had this experience all of a sudden now Dawn of Chromatica exists... I went into listening to DOC as a way to replace some of the tracks I felt a bit underwhelmed by in the original (and there are a few that overtake the originals for sure). And to clarify, every single song on Chromatica is impeccable in terms of Gaga's vocals and the melodies etc. but the production on a few tracks definitely left something to be desired to me. But today it's just clicking in for me that DOC existing alongside Chromatica has highlighted the entire OG Chromatica album in my mind as just this beautiful painful, melancholic sad club banger album. The songs I didn't fall in love with at first now all make more sense to me production wise and I can see the sad beauty that underscores all of them so much more now DOC exists as a comparison. Even in the more simplistic production elements and empty dance drops (which I never really hated in the first place) it just really makes more sense in my mind now that I'm revisiting the original tracks again, each song has such an upsetting contrast of hope and dark reflection. I always loved Chromatica, it gives off the same aura as Cher's "Believe" album to me (which I listened to obsessively from the age of about 4 or 5) but it finally feels more whole to me now that the remix album exists. I think it has served its purpose so wonderfully as a remix album and a companion album even more (even though I have some tweaks in mind that would make DOC a 100% perfect project - I very much mentally replace that visionless Alice remix by LSDXOXO with the Cyberkills Remix) 😂 TL;DR: DOC made me love OG Chromatica as a whole so much more. Would love to hear any of your thoughts on how DOC has altered your view on the original album.
enissa11 2,984
yes, i agree, i think gaga just thought this album should be this intimate 90's house club album to dace through the pain while telling us her story, and hence she didn't want to go crazy with the production choices so it wouldn't be "distracting" for the message, like it happened already with ARTPOP sadly. Bling 31,288
I was JUST thinking this too! DoC really helped me appreciate Chromatica as a whole, and honestly, I was expecting something more like DoC when we heard the concept for the album. My main criticism of Chromatica is that it's very simplistic and is probably the most formulated Gaga album, there's no real room for the songs to breathe or the beats to just exist. DoC made me LOVE Plastic Doll which has always been a skip for me as it sounds too elementary for my taste. Fun Tonight got a little notch up in the likability scale but I will still probably only listen to the remix sometimes. It's still kinda Kidz Bop-ish. Also OG Stupid Love is one of my least fav Gaga songs ever and the remix goes OFF, I can't believe so many people here don't like it. DoC really brought the Chromatica experience full circle (sans music videos ) and I'm very grateful Gaga greenlit this project. Lastly, DoC introduced me to some amazing up-and-coming artists and I think it's so cool she collabed with LGBTQ/BIPOC and gave them much needed exposure. Gaga truly is unlike any other artist out there. For me, the perfect album would be: Alice OG SL remix ROM OG (wtf is the remix....) Free Woman remix Fun Tonight remix 911 BOTH versions tbh Plastic Doll remix Sour Candy BOTH (love the remix but it's only missing Gaga's iconic dominatrix verse...) Enigma remix Replay remix SFA remix 1000 Doves OG (I like the remix but there's a vulnerability in the original that is heartbreaking) Babylon 3 versions discord.gg/hausofmayhem 1 Year and 1000+ Members! Guest
I like chromatica. Doesn’t have as much replay value for me like her other albums did though. Not a fan of doc idk ha
Chromatislaps 34,822
imho my favorite tracklisting would be something like this: Chromatica I Alice OG SL OG ROM OG Free Woman Remix Fun Tonight Remix Chromatica II 911 OG/911 Charli AG cook remix (and extended long mix with elements of both mixes would be amazing starting with the original, and then transitioning into the charli version) Plastic Doll OG/Plastic Doll Remix (maybe the OG mix should have had the added vocals by Ashnikko in the chorusses, and a beat switch to the remix version by the end of the song) Sour Candy OG Replay Dorian Remix Chromatica III SFA Original with the Outro of Lil Texas 1000 Doves Piano version Intro, switching into the OG version (similar to how Gypsy builds from accoustic to EDM) Babylon OG with the Bree verse and beat switch to Hauslabs version as Outtro. holy scheisse 22,113
DOC > chromatica DOC made me actually enjoy Babylon, 1000 doves, sine from above (yes, its grown on me), plastic doll, sour candy, and enigma (unpopular opinion-- love the remix). Suddenly I love all the tracks that were once skips. ROM and 911 are the only ones who's original I prefer, but even then-- the remixes created an entirely new vibe which I love as well. So yeah all in all, DOC slays and it's the album I've been wanting since ARTPOP. I love chromatica, but I lovelovelove DOC Plus, gaga has kinda existed in a vacuum for most of her career and I love that she now has so many collabs with younger artists. Chromatica Island 8,517
I love both equally tbh, it's her best body of work to me as someone who deals with mental issues it's such a amazing experience, I feel like Gaga understands me. Starmie25 17,084
I must be the only one who loves have different versions of songs. I don't just stick with one lol. Now I can go ride to "Free Woman" (og) and then slowly transition to the more festive "fun tonight" remix. Best of both worlds.
eunino 1,495
Not sure if it changed my mind about the OG, but definitely made me creating my own Chromatica album on Spotify just putting together my favorite tracks from each album. And it turned out a master piece. I have said it already and I will say it again, Free Woman and Plastic Doll versions from the DOC should have been on the OG. They elevate the album to another level.

Omg not you basically reading my mind with the ideal tracklist. I'd have a hard time picking between some of them, but I have literally written out timestamps and edits on how to make the remix versions the best they could be but I'm not a talented producer and don't have the means to make any cool edits 😂

This is kinda what I meant with this thread for sure, before I was mentally piecing together the "best" Chromatica album, but DOC made me realise that I can appreciate both versions of each songs just the same. (Apart from Alice remix, because what was the point of that).

Yes I love the taste here for sure! Would like to see if anyone agrees with my personal changes to the DOC Remix album 😂: 1. ALICE (if I had to pick a remix it would be the Cyberkills one or Robots With Ray Guns - I've legit just added them to the beginning of my DOC playlist to replace the LSDXOXO one) 2. STUPID LOVE (I prefer the Ellis Remix for the drop in the chorus, but those synths in the OG track verses still get me going. The Coucou Chloe one is very chic, but makes SL sound like an interlude and it deserves more than that) 3. ROM (Purple Disco Machine Remix, even though I liked Arca's and listen to it when I'm high for sure, this is the one I listen too more) 4. FREE WOMAN ft. Rina (no notes. Clarence need to work on her next pop album, I'm manifesting it. He could legit give us a Born This Way 2.0 level serve) 5. FUN TONIGHT ft. Pabllo (change nothing, it's incredible. Would extend it though) 6. 911 ft. Charli XCX (love this version but there is space in the first half of the track to re-add Gaga's first verse, which is my fav bit of the original. Charli can still do the 2nd like she does and her new verse is gorgeous) 7. PLASTIC DOLL ft. Ashnikko (it's perfect, maybe extend it a tiny bit) 8. SOUR CANDY ft. SHYGIRL (Mura Masa killed the production, loved it, sounds more liquidy than the original, but would add all the Gaga vocals from the original back in, it's a long enough track to fit both her and Shy) 9. ENIGMA (DOSS Remix: Instrumental is fire and I would keep the "gimme something too believe in" because I love it. Would add more Gaga verse vocals back in though) 10. REPLAY ft. Dorian Electra (Its perfect, a masterpiece) 11. SFA (Chester Lockhart and Lil Texas Remix: sorry Mood your bit is iconic but... , I would love if the production stayed epic and dark for Elton's part with Chester's production, then just went into Lil Texas' ending) 12. 1000 DOVES (Planningtorock Remix: would shorten it for sure, add more lyrics back into it from the original, but keep the deep reverby effects, keep the chorus re-work from this version) 13. BABYLON ft. Bree Runway (it's perfect this way) *** If anyone is good at editing tracks enough to make these a reality, please get in touch. I have notes and clean instrumentals of each remix 😂🙏
