Gagaloo911 12,959
Joe Biden said in a Thursday afternoon statement that he was no longer proposing David Chipman, a 25-year veteran of the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATF) who has worked to tighten gun laws, as the agency’s next director, confirming an earlier Washington Post report. The gun reform group Brady says Biden’s decision to bow to National Rifle Association (NRA) pressure and withdraw his nominee, a strong gun control advocate, to lead the agency enforcing federal firearms laws is “a shameful day for our country”. Ultimately not even the intervention of the US attorney general, Merrick Garland, was able to save the administration from today’s humiliating climbdown, which leaves questions over the direction of the president’s agenda for tackling the “international embarrassment” of gun violence. The collapse of the nomination also leaves the ATF, which has not had a Senate-confirmed director since 2015, in limbo. https://www.theguardian.com/us-news/2021/sep/09/david-chipman-atf-biden-nomination-withdrawal-nra Like literally wtf Biden?? Shameful. When you CLAIM to care about the gun violence in this country and that it's an international embarassment, meanwhile cave to extremist gun fanatics' demands? Why do you come into every thread about something objectively awful that Biden has done to tell us that you don’t care? We get it. You’re going to ignore his massive failings. Those of us who aren’t going to give him a pass because he’s not Trump can manage on our own.
Chlorine 47,976
Conveniently left this part out, that he was unlikely if not impossible to be confirmed. "A senior policy adviser at Giffords, an organisation that advocates for stricter gun laws, Chipman was always seen as a divisive choice. Two Democratic senators from moderate states, Joe Manchin of West Virginia and Montana’s Jon Tester, refused to say if they would back him in a confirmation vote, while Angus King, an independent senator from Maine who caucuses with the Democrats, indicated that he was a “no”. All three would have been crucial in the divided 50-50 chamber."

Look, I'm more than willing to give Biden credit where it's due and when he does something great and the left needs to do as such (like the new Covid policy), but being like Trumpsters and refusing to criticize him or our side/fellow Dems when it's warranted, on failures and bad decisions just ain't it We should learn a lesson from the right and not come for those on our side who are critical on legitimate concerns, or we're frankly no better and only care about policing and keeping people in line on a purely partisan line as opposed to on policy. As if that makes it any better when Manchin (and Sinema) are currently obstructing Democrats' and Biden's ENTIRE agenda on behalf of their corporate donors. Two Senators =/= "divisive" so please try again

Biden’s entire selling point during the primaries was the ridiculous notion that he could get moderate Dems on board with his platform in a way that an actual leftist couldn’t. Looks like that was a total lie, just like we said it was, huh?

You were just obviously biased in how you created this thread and are clearly anti-Biden when the bigger issue is actually Manchin, Sinema and the lack of cohesion in the Democratic party to take action. Chlorine 47,976
Just now, OG Gaga Stan said: Biden’s entire selling point during the primaries what the ridiculous notion that he could get moderate Dems on board with his platform in a way that an actual leftist couldn’t. Looks like that was a total lie, just like we said it was, huh? Well he was wrong in this instance then, because this nominee was too progressive. Unfortunately, Democrats and liberals need to work 2x as hard to win elections and affect policy because of how the US is set up to favor smaller states (which all now happen to be majority Republican). This is like the second time I've commented in a Biden thread since he was elected You must be confusing me with someone else I don't debate politics here anymore 'cause y'all have too much vitriol for me tbh. I don't like being called a nazi just because I'm ok with Democrats. Whimsical bitch

Oh please. I voted for Biden, and support him on many things, including pulling out of Afghanistan and his newly announced Covid vaccine policy. I'm just not so partisan that I support every single thing he does simply because he's a Democat and is not Trump, and give him criticism where it's needed. This decision just ain't it, not with what his purported stance on this issue is. So thank u next!

I don't like being called a nazi just because I'm ok with Democrats. …I’m absolutely not. No one on the left calls you a Nazi. But they do rightfully criticize you and all of the other Biden people on this site for angrily defending a right-wing president who’s done nothing about the kids in cages you were so outraged about during Trump’s administration and saying that you “stan” him, like you did in a thread not that long ago. You should think about why you don’t want to engage with that criticism from the left because the answer is obvious.
