Linus Gaga 8,269
I haven't watched the movie yet, but I have been reading some reviews here and there. Looks like lots of people here love the movie so much and it being one of their favorite marvel movies. but i was surprised to see most of the reviews on Facebook by Asians, saying the story is boring and this is the first marvel movie they wanna leave the cinema in halfway, main actor was not good looking, the forced Chinese Western Culture Combinations is cringe etc So what's the truth? should I watch it later ? Blastertoyo 22,734
The pacing of the movie is a bit off be abuse it flashes a lot between young Shang Chi and the “modern” plot. I had the pleasure of attending an advanced screening with the actor who plays young Shang Chi so it was fun to watch it with the big star of the movie but it does affect the pacing a bit. overall, the movies target audience is obviously ABC (American born Chinese) and it makes sense to me that people who have had the pleasure of growing up with Wuxia films, this movie would seem a bit less exciting and gritty since it’s being told from an “American” perspective. It’s a unique combination of aesthetics and storytelling techniques that American cinema hasn’t really seen much of so I can understand that criticism about “forcing culture combinations” as for saying the main actor isn’t attractive or go watch for Tony Leung instead please enlighten me to death

Serial Chiller 8,044
It's interesting. I see Asian Americans (and also white Americans) praise Crazy rich asians to hell, and that was one of the cringiest, blandest, vanilla romcoms I have ever watched. Any Korean drama or even the Hong Kong TVB soaps in the 90s would have more substance than CRA. I havent seen Shang Chi (no chance here lol) I cant see how it's going to be worse. McKaleburger 6
Asians from Asia are trying so hard to speak for and force their decisions on Asian Americans. They never allowed Asian Americans to say anything about Asia nor its entertainment. Likewise, Asians from Asia shouldn't make decisions about AAPI issues. Decisions about AAPI issues should be made by those who live there, and should be decided by those Asian Americans who work in the Hollywood industry for many years.
