Fuffy 1,027
Not sure how I feel about this. I really like MNEK but I feel he's mistakenly entered into cancel culture. Objectively, it's very clear that Cheryl was in the wrong and it was a racist action. That's a definite. It was a drunken assault that was aggravated by race. However, even though this was several years ago, society has made a huge leap forward in awareness on racial disparities. It gets a little complex here because she grew up in a working class family where she didn't get the education to understand racial prejudice and bias. This has a big impact on someone's behavior. It's even why many poc are (unfairly) seen in the legal system because they are disadvantaged in access to education and work. The "calling out" culture is toxic because it does zero to heal divisions and fix problems. Again, I really like MNEK and he is a super talented producer and vocalist. He's a very inspirational queer figure too. I just feel he's letting the SJW glasses fog his desire to do real good.

You know you live life long enough that you start picking up on the manipulative tactics people use in conversations. So because you read something you didn’t like, all of a sudden it’s “stupid” or because the person is “having difficulty” expressing themselves. No, I think it just boils down to the fact you said some really inconsiderate things and when someone held you accountable to them, instead of taking responsibility, you decided to twist the narrative and offend others instead. Such conduct will only go so far and know that some people will see right through it. Your apology to me is insincere and if you want an A for effort for editing your comment, then sure you can have that. I think going forward I’ll just remind myself not to have a conversation with you.
