I think Ryan Murphy often portrays gay men in a stereotypical, very diminutive light. It’s turned me off to his more adult-themed work, many of us don’t see ourselves in that.

You’re not supposed to see yourself in that. It’s a specific kind of character.

A bad example of a gay troupe is in AHS Apocalypse. Why was Mr. Gallant. What was the point of making that character overtly gay and in your face?

Because it’s supposed to be? Those characters aren’t supposed to be in your fave bc theyre gay, they’re just in your face.  It’s not supposed to be relatable or anything.

I haven't seen 911 or 911 Lonestar either but I think there are gay characters there too.

One of the guys in the main gay relationship of Lonestar is a recovering addict :billie:

I don't watch his stuff unless Gaga is in it. (With the exception of the coven season.) I really don't need horror in my life. It doesn't bring joy. The meandering point being that I don't have an opinion. But if he keeps relying on one stereotype, he is not very creative, arguably offensive. His response basically saying that he will do it if he wants to, is a childish showing of ego and expression of artistic freedom, careless of how this stereotype is hurting the society's perception of a minority. He could have just ignored the comment, but chose to double down instead. I think he's wrong.( I formed an opinion while writing this, but I haven't seen many of his characters.)

So he gave no reasoning, just said he's gonna keep doing it... Is he trying to be edgy with that response or something? Idk man. I don't see why a gay man wouldn't want to portray a gay man/couple in a positive light at least once in his work. He did a great job normalising Lana as a lesbian woman, but I agree with the original tweeter, his gay male characters are always awful people or play into stereotypes

I'll be myself until they fūcking close the coffin.

i actually think that he's trying to be realistic, it's not that different from most guys you'd meet on grindr, is it?

But AHS and most of Ryan Murphy’s shows are 100% adult-themed. I get how many may object to stereotypes shown but he includes the full spectrum of the rainbow. Some of his casting choices or written roles are also necessary to give voice and texture to many in the queer and alternative communities. It’s not meant to cater to all tastes. This was from Season 1.

Yeah and he kind of comes across like he casts whatever flavor of the month he wants to f***.

There is NO excuse for casting Gus Kenworthy, dude couldn’t act his way out of a cardboard box.

This is true my god :deadbanana:

Wtf, you serious? I don't like Grindr and the crowd on there, but it's originated as an app to find sex. Don't blame gay people in general for not finding on there what you seek in gay men.
