has anyone seen the movie Beats on Netflix? The record deal is only in a short scene but it shows how easy it is to be swayed into signing a terrible deal especially as an excited artist being told this will help you move and buy your mom a nice house etc

a 360 deal is an especially bad deal that is known to be signed by new artists and they quickly realize the mistake they made but this isnt surprising considering they normally dont look at the deal because they never know what it all means or they dont have proper lawyers or lawyers at all for that matter, but for a short description basically most of the artists sources of revenue come from live performances and merchandise and mostly benefit the label and this is what you see here with Megans label getting an almost complete majority of her music earnings + owning her masters

Artists won't sign this deal if it didn't sound appealing though. Must have been promised lots of backing and resources from the label.

they would and they have, the deal isnt just stated out like that oh were gonna take all of your revenue no plus these labels prey on young artists like meg who know nothing about this type of stuff, i bet you they contacted her she got so excited and signed the deal immediately.

and thats not the only time artists have been trapped into horrible deals like that it happens all the time
