EGOT2027 10,869
i kinda agree with this. once ally gets famous, it very much feels of a different era almost. like 2011. and i feel like bradley could never really decide if they wanted to lean into the fact that it was lady gaga or run away from it. i also feel like most lessons/themes from the movie are very much the vibe of like a early 90s movie lol. like does anyone really understand what bradley was trying to say in the second half about pop music bc he swears it isn’t a critique of it. or what is the message of the end that the man had to die so that she could be born?? bc of course he couldn’t handle being married to someone more successful than him lol. don’t come for me i love the movie and saw it 6 times in theaters and bought like 10 copies of the soundtrack and said i loved everything about the movie to everyone i knew until gaga won her oscar. i’m just blazed and over-analyzing this movie good night

SHALLOW 16,142
She's pissed Gaga's version is the most talked about she wasn't so salty few years ago Also i really think the version with Beyonce and Will Smith would've flopped hard. I really can't picture them together and we all know Bey can do many things but acting isn't really one of them

But I feel like Beyoncé’s acting is not that great and it would have been panned by critics. I do hate the trope that pop music is lesser than singer-songwriter music that showed in the script but it was a great movie and a great way for Gaga to start her acting career. Not that interesting once it flopped and no one would even talk about it

She's just saying it was similar to her version, and that she'd wish it was more innovative. Sh*t up and move on. We know Gaga and Streisand have a good relationship. Gaga even said they talked about her role and Streisand gave her some advice. Y'all really can't read between the lines she really could've avoided saying it was "the wrong idea", unless she really wanted to make this version look bad. The way I see it with the critique of pop music is they're showing Jackson's point of view, which he has a bias against the type of music Ally starts making when she's getting famous. So it's being critical but it's Jackson saying it, and eventually he changes his mind and sees things differently because of Ally I think the part about him dying, is like, Bradley's vision of a cycle of death and birth.. would Ally have gone back to her origins (we see her in brown hair again which is a symbol of this I think) if Jackson had not died? Idk, Bradley said that the moment at the end is when the "star was born".. I guess that's what he meant the meow in zombieboy

She seemed pressed about Gaga's version from the start. And the fact it did so well with critics and award season didnt help. This. I sort of get her point about it being so similar to previous versions (something a few critics had mentioned)...but LMAO at her acting like the version she did was Kris Kristofferson was some great, unique film and that Cooper's version paled in comparison. Like really...I love Barbra but her version was, as you said, panned to hell and considered awful at the time (and still awful when Cooper first started developing his version). TBF she blatantly slated Beyonce-this shade was mild in comparison and didn't seem to target Gaga directly so much as the film as a whole. But really, the Bey shade was so unnecessarily petty as was the dig at Cooper/Gaga's ASIB. She's entitled to her opinions, but there was a better way of wording "I thought the fourth remake was a bit much".
