Barbra wasn't dragging Gaga or Bradley, at all. She would have preferred a MULTIRACIAL cast and different music genre, but she said the 2018 version was a big success and she "can't argue with success."

I have not seen her version or Judy's so Gaga's version was new to me. 🙂 They're all remakes anyway, what's the big deal?? There's nothing new under the sun. HoG is based on a book, you know?

Barbra DID shade Beyoncé which I thought was uncalled for. "Well she first sang it once and, I didn't think it was good enough, actually, for her... and I know she did it over, and she did it beautifully the second time." (Beyoncé paid tribute to Barbra at the 2008 Kennedy Center Honors.)

I never said she dragged Gaga or Bradley, never made the 'originality' claim, nor did I 'come' for Barbra, I merely pointed out that I did not relate to her read of the story and think she oversaw some things that made the 2018 movie distinct and meaningful in my opinion... Idk if you quoted me by accident, or are responding to imaginary antagonism, but if it's the latter - NO WAY, things aren't new and get based on books? Why I've never heard of such a thing ever in my life, not once :partysick:

Omg screaming. I know I’m late to this thread but the “look, it was a big success, but I don’t care so much about success as I do originality” part is going to be so widely used in this fan base I think I choked a bit reading it from the interview script :toofunny:

The truth is she should have said nothing. Bradley was nothing but gracious to her and she had to diss his efforts. Its petty and unnecessary and Gaga would never.

She's getting trashed in the comments. I was sure it was gonna be "she's right" but they are defending 2018 ASIB big time.

I love how the media / fans are using Gaga’s name to give this story ground. I’m not really sure how Streisand can go off originality.. Coopers film was not a remake of her own. Gaga, the film & its success remain unbothered.

You know she's bitter when she named a bad actress like Beyonce for the role. When are those older acts move on and realise it's a different era and people moved on with newer artists

She could’ve at least complimented the cast and Cooper for directing his version but instead she just put a negative spin on it, obviously wants the publicity with a new album coming out soon.

Oh GOD! The woman didn't agree with the creative direction of the script, not the actors or their performance. In instances like this, this fanbase is acting very poorly and is the reason why it gets such a bad rep.

It's not just the fandom though. It seems like a lot of people thought her comments were unnecessary. She's entitled to her opinion, but someone in her position doesn't need to offer it up, especially having spent time with the people involved.

Like she really took it upon herself to say that, bc she wasn't being pressed for a hot take on it.

Wow, I never thought I'd see the day where the DM would be actively defending Gaga when they had an opportunity to bash her. Their opinion on her differs depending on what she's doing. ASIB really helped change their perception of her but it doesn't take much to swing things the other way again. This was a prime example where there would be a wide open chance to bash her but they've given her overwhelming support and it's clearly not just fans as the green arrows suggest most people in general who read it are agreeing. Ok, a lot of those comments were needlessly mean to Barbra but this gives me hope that the public have, on the whole, really learned to appreciate Gaga and her talent now and the hate train will hopefully never come around as badly as it did in 2013 again.

But don't you think it's a bit weird that she said this version was "the wrong idea"? It was the most commercially successful out of all the versions, its soundtrack was the most commercially successful, it got nominated for all the biggest awards and won a Golden Globes, a BAFTA and an Oscar, the critics loved it, the public loved it. How could that objectively be the wrong idea? That's where the concepts of pettiness come in because what other reason would she have for saying that it could have been done better? And whether you agree with the directing and production choices for the movie, that does involve the characters and their performances, it's all one and the same. She says Will and Beyonce would've been better, so is therefore saying the casting choices were wrong, therefore that their acting and portrayal of their roles wasn't good enough. How is that not criticising the actors and their performance? I really hope that if it ever gets remade in the future and Gaga and Bradley are still living that they don't go down this route as whether it's true or not, it's not a good look.

Gaga would never. I really think she will be 100% supportive of younger artists. I mean she already is, but when she's really a grand Dame of showbiz I think she will always strive to support and encourage people. She's basically said it in that birthday wish to Tony. She knows the value of validation from her icons.

As for the daily mail comment section? Yeah, it definitely sways depending on what Gaga appears in public but the one thing that has changed is very few people argue about her talent now and I guess that's what any legitimate  performer wants.
