Honestly, at least she waited until like three years after the film to say this, unlike a certain someone :vegas:

Ok but why does it seem like most people here are jumping to conclusions and are complaining about Barbra now ? Lol no wonder we can't discuss anything here. Y'all just start throwing sh!t to whoever doesn't kiss Gaga's ass 24/7. She's just talking about the differences between Judy's and her's and how her's and Gaga's are more similiar than she expected rather than changing up the story or scenarios in some way to make it a more original story. She loves Gaga and she liked this movie but that's just her honest opinion on the execution of the story.

why do so many legendary women in entertainment seem to have it out for Gaga or her work :skull: I know Barbara's comments arn't really about Gaga as it was more so about the direction of the film that she had an issue with or w/e but damn...like why not feel honored that they redid the film so alike to your version? i just do not get it.

This isn’t really a diss so much as an observation. Reviewers from the jump noted how similar it was to the Babs version. I would agree. If we’re looking at the different iterations, I think these two have the least. It be what it be :vegas:

Daenerys

Does anyone think global warming is a good thing? I love Barbara Streisand. I think she is a really interesting artist.

Her comments are more than justified especially when talking about lack of diversity in Hollywood. This movie has been made 4 times under the same title and has never veered from the classic white male in power position influencing a younger white female with extraordinary talent. Yes her version was very different in details from Judy’s but Judy’s was not very different than the one that came before her. If you want to point fingers towards lack of originality then those should be pointed towards Bradley and Warner Bro. I think Gaga did A TON OF WORK to make their movie feel intimate, personal, and relatable that she will never receive credit for. She could have easily had a production credit I believe. However for all the success that movie has serious flaws. The script and layout of the plot needs serious help. They could have done so much better with the writing alone that it blows my mind it was nominated in some of those categories. Without the phenomenal music, live singing, and some of the best on screen chemistry between a couple the movie would have been panned. ASIB was an event not just a film. A large part of that is because of Gaga and her ability to make people pay attention to anything she does.

REALITY

She has the right to her opinion, of course, but I don't know if it's all that valid...

The new ASIB was a very modern take on the story. At the end of the day, this is a remake. You can only change it so much because you have to balance out retelling the same story while also adding new elements to make it fresh and different from the other remakes.

Ally becoming a bubblegum pop star seems like a fairly original idea. Barbra wasn't singing songs like WDYDT in her version

How dare you reduce our Italian American “too ethnic” to be the lead in high school Gaga to a “white female” :trollga:

It's the 4th remake of the same movie, how different was she expecting it to be? :awkney: Certainly different enough that it was acclaimed by critics while Barbra's got the worst reception out of all the versions of ASIB :yennefer:

It goes both ways I think. If the story strayed too far away from the original and Barbara’s version, the fans of the older movies would have been upset that it was too different.

Ok but who even remembers her version. People only talk about 1954 and 2018. Next

Huh? I think more people especially around the ages 50-70 like my parents remember Barbra's version more than Judy's. I know you guys have suddenly turned your back on Barbra now after reading that and activated the shady comments but come on lol.
