It really is so terrible that they're basically back to square one after 20 years. At the end of the day though we can't force their people to chose democracy and human rights. If 20 years didn't make a dent, we were never going to change that.

Do u think this will work out? After 20 years from different politicians (right and left) nothing has happened. If the US Gov really wants to end it, they could. I am not into conspiracies but this indicates one of these options: 1- They are incompetent and they have been lying about their true purpose in the country 2- They do not know what they are doing there and just holding their grounds for 20 years without a real strategy. 3- Taliban is just so powerful that no military can take over. 

Now tell me which of these makes most sense

But they are taken over by Taliban, they did not choose that. It is not like civilians are asking to be raped and taken as hostages.

Well, it's the truth. You cannot go around trying to "fix" other countries' governments like it's at all possible to do so through military intervention alone. The Taliban radicalized people thanks to the prospect of indefinite US intervention. People who didn't like being told what to do by a government that isn't even theirs will obviously join the only alternative they have, and in the process be more easily radicalized. The US has made a mess out of the region, but what is new.
