Kinda hope Gaga doesn't go tbh. These things just seem to be an excuse for the internet to mock everybody on the red carpet. Gaga has attended, performed and hosted now

But that's like saying the Olympics is just an excuse for the internet to mock the athletes.

It's an entertainment event. It's a chance for designers/stylists to show off their work, for celebs to promote/express themselves and for the public to enjoy the best and worst of high fashion. There is certainly a lot of mockery going on but anyone who attends the Met Gala is very much aware that there is no such thing as bad press.

Influencers are no different than any of the other celebrities that are always there. They're all just famous people being paid to wear big designer's clothes.

If they serve looks and entertain me, I don't care what their day job is.

But that is their day job all they do is serve looks and advertise sh*t lol it's so vapid

Some insiders are griping that the Met Gala, scheduled for Sept. 13, is starting to lose its luster.

“I’ve been told that a lot of influencers are on the guest list.” "Facebook and Instagram have taken so many tables, and that’s put a lot of people off going" one celebrity agent said.

A publicist with A-list clients added: “Personally, I don’t think the Met is cool anymore … It’s gone from super prestigious to [being] full of influencers.”

Because of COVID restrictions, Anna Wintour has had to slash the guest from 600 to 450.

Among the rumored newcomers is Addison Rae and YouTuber Emma Chamberlain.

No y’all don’t understand they’re just doing another super meta theme of camp. Right? :messga:

Irrelevant rich people that were not invited cant complain that social media influencers are the "new celebrities" and replaced them lol

I agree that social media influencers are the new celebrities, but the event is supposed to be a fundraising so...

I wouldn’t mind if these people actually had any sense of style at all but most influencers are the cookie cutter sh1tty tiktok/Instagram H&M garbage types. I think the MET as a fashion event should actually acknowledge people who have made an impact or really care abt fashion as an art

Okay but the elitism is showing.

I assumed it was the ultra rich who WERE invited complaining as it made their presence less prestigious :laughga:

Why tf would they make that decision? To bring attention to the event? As if 'influencers' need any more of an ego boost :bear:

I'll be myself until they fūcking close the coffin.

Exactly this. It reduces it down to some kiddy party, from an event to showcase fashion as art

THIS. And they're mostly way more entertaining than regular celebs anyways. I hope they'll bring the heat this year

Well from a marketing point of view, it makes sense. Influencers are equivalent to what the supermodels of the 90's were in terms of reach and getting people to buy products/be interested in brands. Sure, influencers are tacky, but that's just the culture we're in currently.
