What’s the history of GagaDaily?

It’s funny when you think about it. We’ve all found ourselves here at different times in Gaga’s career, but few, including myself, know the true history of GagaDaily. I know it’s been around since very early in her career, but someone enlighten me please!!

 

What era were we founded in?

When did the site develop a following?

When did Gaga learn of the site?

Did @Admin create it?

What did the website look like at the beginning? 
Has it gone through many phases over the years?

 

So many questions to be asked!

If I remember right, it was founded around February 2009. I’m a member from April 2009, we were only 160 members at that time.

There used to be a chatroom on the front page of the website during 2010. Gaga joined that chat and had this whole spiel about how BTW would be an anthem for a generation. People thought she ws crazy then but haha she was right

I didn’t know that!  She used to interact so much with us and she was so young and excited for her projects before the whole Troy Carter mess

Gagadaily was around WAY before Gaga.....It was originally founded in 1516 to celebrate the birth of Bloody Mary, stans affectionately called her 'Lil Blood' for a while as her rap career took off around 1534 before she took the throne and began her flop era.

It's been 84 years... and I can still smell the fresh gays. The threads had never been posted. The Warning Points had never been given. Gagadaily was called the Forum of Dreams. And it was. It really was...

I’ve lurked this site since the early days, didn’t have a screenname until a couple years ago though. I remember Gaga used to have a link to Gagadaily on the front page of her website and also how she befriended Emma, one of the mods. Is Emma still w/ GGD?

Yeah if I remember correctly Gaga named her wheelchair after her and gave her some kind of position with the BTW Foundation.

I wish I had had a computer when GGD had first been made. And been able to experience TheFame MB and Propagaga in their early days. So much of those early internet years are lost truly forever as no one had the foresight or presence of mind to back them up. 

Our lead archivist and true Ghost In The Machine @Sara is the brains behind Gagaverse, which is an online repository of what we were able to preserve beginning in 2011 for the fans. 

We ran a sophisticated crawler which I have not been able to personally reproduce on the entire original GagaDailyBoards forums. The live website itself,  the main blog, run by Admin, was mostly backed up semi naturally by the Wayback machine, but because of robotstxt no one could crawl the forum. Except Sara. She made that possible and we did preserve the entire original ggd from 2009 to 2011 on Gagaverse. Roughly every 2 or 3 years she does another crawl. 

I want to learn how so I can do it every year. Sara did promise to teach me, but she has a great deal of things going on right now and I respect her space. 

*** This will sound insane but I feel it was and is critically important to preserve how fans percieved LG's fame and what it inspired them to do as the eras happened... *** 

If you ask my why I archive and why I save remixes and fan art its because I believe this digital representation of love for what Gaga does is important and should be saved. 

We as fans document the history of what this superstar and complete humanitarian icon does for us every day. All the voices of the fans are a mosaic of joy that we share with each other and the world. Almost every quote or experience she gives is inspiring. 

Sometimes I take this very seriously and I can talk at length about the necessity of preservation and this can get me into trouble because I don't always respect the boundaries that not all things are mine to archive. I want to apologize to the people to whose toes I have stepped on in my anxious haste to preserve the day to day experiences. I'm sorry. I love Gaga and Gagadaily so much for all the enriching moments and deepest inspirations I've gotten from both over the years.
