RAMROD 109,916
Tony Bennett has canceled his fall and winter 2021 tour dates. The legendary crooner is pulling out of concerts in New York, Maryland, Connecticut, Arizona, Oklahoma and Canada. Ticket holders should check with the local venues for information regarding refunds. The tour — consisting of pre-pandemic shows dates had been rescheduled — was slated to begin in September. The legendary crooner did not announce why the six shows were canceled, Variety reports. However, earlier this year, Bennett’s family revealed that he has been battling Alzheimer’s disease since 2016. Bennett, who just turned 95, teamed up with Lady Gaga for two nights at New York’s Radio City Music Hall last week. The concerts were filmed for broadcast at a later date. Speaking to AARP, Bennett’s family said that, despite the Alzheimer’s diagnosis, performing in front of an audience kept the singer sharp. However, the pandemic year with no live performances took a toll on Bennett cognitively. “His memory, prior to the pandemic, was so much better,” Bennett’s neurologist Gayatri Devi said, “And he’s not alone. So many of my patients are negatively affected by the isolation, the inability to do the things that matter to them. For someone like Tony Bennett, the big high he gets from performing was very important.” Source: https://apnews.com/article/entertainment-music-arts-and-entertainment-tony-bennett-a7eb3a758c1e51d1bffa676d04a0d09c https://variety.com/2021/music/news/tony-bennett-cancels-2021-tour-1235039813/ https://www.rollingstone.com/music/music-news/tony-bennett-cancels-2021-tour-dates-1211382/ (ノ◕ヮ◕)ノ✧*:・゚ hating pop music doesn't make you deep (*´艸`*) ♡♡♡
JusKeepBreathin 19,311
I know he probably wants to work because most workaholics that are his age always have to be doing something. I have family members in their 80's who can't sit still. SEANGT 5,375
makes sense, I thought I read Gaga said something about those being his last performances while on stage. It's so sad how Alzheimer's patients had such a decline across the board because of the pandemic. I hope he still is able to have a joyful life in his final years. Glamourpuss 29,062
The part about how the pandemic has affected him makes me feel so sad.
Dr Fudge 8,635
Fans should prepare for the worse. At his age and with his diagnosis, he might deteriorate fairly fast. So much love to him and his family. Been a cuff touple, a puff bupple, a tough couple of years.
monketsharona 83,835
I may sound harsh but just let him rest and focus on himself. It's a deserved retirement after such a gigantic career !
LaLuna 12,732
I mean... let the poor man retire, he's 95 for god's sake.
flyaway 15,350
I'm still amazed he was able to do those 2 dates with LG. A total badass. Even having that condition, at 95 yo and performing like nothing. Wooo I don't even remember what I ate for breakfast this morning

You maybe skipped over the article but the neurologist said that Alzheimer patients have suffered a lot during the pandemic just because they were resting and not doing the things that keep them busy. Tony not getting to perform is going to take a bigger toll on his health chaeri pls

Tony not getting to perform is going to take a bigger toll on his health But it doesnt have to be one extreme or the other... Over exerting urself isnt healthy either... if hes having to pull out then at his age and his condition its probably too much for him now and forcing it aint healthy either Keep in mind with pandemic it was worse than just slowing down or taking it easy. Ppl were locked in their houses. Couldnt pursue much of any hobbies etc. Besides being depressing the mind isnt very active then either If he cant keep up a comitment like this maybe theres a happy medium goldilocks zone in between performing in front of large crowds and the demands that come with it vs doing nothing Perhaps he can perform for friends or do smaller private gigs for a while that are less demanding. Retiring doenst mean he has to sit on the sofa all day
GucciGa 3,729
I saw this earlier, I didn't even know he had arranged extra dates. It's probably to keep him safe from the delta strain. But the 2 shows at radio city will have showed just how able he is for this kind of show. Its one thing having Lady Gaga opening and performing with you. Maybe they realised doing it solo would be too much and to go out on a high.. Also... I was reading up on Tony's younger days.... His love life was interesting lol 😇
