A study in France has found that vaccine resistant variants are highest when a significant portion of the population is vaccinated but not high enough for herd immunity

 

High vaccination provides a weeding out of weaker versions of virus while still spreading around if its not quite high enough for herd immunity for virus to die out

 

This study suggests why other measures like mask wearing and social gathering limits should not be totally dropped when vaccination rates are only 60% or 70%

 

The modeling suggested 60% vaccination as the worst point for this risk

This is simmilar to antibiotics for an infection... u have to either take it till infection dies or dont take it at all

 

Taking too low a dose of antibiotics or stopping them too early usually just makes infection return more deadly than before u started antibiotics

I've almost given up on herd immunity. And on people wearing masks. After listening to public comments at our school board meeting today, I'm concerned about the lack of care for other people our society has. And how much people think God will protect them but then don't use those things that God provides us with to protect us. (This was an argument I heard tonight, not one I'm trying to push.)

I mean people are wired differently but I simply cannot fathom how mask wearing is such a bother that there is a protest against it?

You exert more effort in protesting masks than you would simply wearing them. Nobody is asking you to lug around a weight on your back? or run a lap? What is this discomfort you speak of? You can still have vaxxed gatherings, go outside, open business, enjoy most of the things you were pre-pandemic. 

I can only imagine this protest is only out of sheer ignorance (the conservatives, for the past 1.5 years) or spite for the unvaccinated (the liberals) And honestly I don't know which camp I despise more. 

The liberals somehow think anyone who wishes to get vaccinated can. This is a GLOBAL pandemic ffs. Do you think just because the US has high vaccination rates you're all set? A variant found across the globe can spread to continents in matters of days.  

In so many countries vaccine inequity is real and so many people worldwide are unvaxxed. The virus can mutate into a vaccine resistant variant any moment so yeah, thanks for showing the dumb unvaxxed crowd by giving the virus more chance to spread, I guess?

My chronic disapointment in life tbh and in some aspects i find its getting worse not better

Thats another reason i find it selfish to say we got vaxxed and those that didnt did it by choice so i shouldnt have to mask anymore or social distance

 

First of all even in rich countries theres a small minority that may want to but cant for health reasons. The fact that the number of people in this camp is small shouldnt be a reason for us not to care. Then theres children as well that cannot get vaccine

 

But secondly its also a global issue too. If u start a new variant it may reach another nation where not everyone that wants a vaccine has had a chance to have it yet

 

So i just find the mentality that if ur vaxxed u should be able to do whatever u want because the vulnerable are vulnerable due to their own fault to be extremely short sighted and selfish... 

 

Were not only talking about a few hardcore southern conservatives or Karens that can take vaccine and simply choose not to because of something their friend posted on facebook. Theres a lot of other circumstances and groups of ppl who are vulnerable as well and not by choice!
