Update:

Quentin Tarantino’s mother says she is proud of him despite Quentin Tarantino revealing he hasn’t given her a penny of his $120M fortune
'Regarding my son Quentin - I support him, I'm proud of him and love him and his growing new family.' said Connie Tarantino, 75.
'It gave me great joy to dance at his wedding and receive his news upon the birth of my grandson, Leo.'

She says the furor over her son's comments have been blown out of proportion.
'Quentin and I both know that a sound bite on a podcast can spin and go viral without full context and can regurgitate inaccurately bolstered by slices of old interviews and assumptive past written material,'
She does "not wish to participate in this salacious transactional media frenzy."

Speaking on The Moment podcast Quentin Tarantino recalled a moment when his mother sided with his teachers after he was scolded for writing screenplays in school.

“My mum always had a hard time about my scholastic non-ability,” he said.

“She was b**ching at me (about getting into trouble for writing at school) and then in the middle of her little tirade, she said, ‘Oh, and by the way, this little ‘writing career’, with the finger quotes and everything. This little ‘writing career’ that you’re doing? That sh*t is over!’”

Quentin Tarantino said that was the moment when he decided she would receive no financial support once he reached stardom.

“When she said that to me in that sarcastic way, I was in my head, and I go, ‘OK, lady. When I become a successful writer, you will never see one penny from my success',” he recalled.

“There will be no house for you. There’s no vacation for you, no Elvis Cadillac for Mummy. You get nothing. Because you said that.”

I helped her out with a jam with the IRS (Internal Revenue Service). But no house. No Cadillac, no house,” he said.

There are consequences for your words as you deal with your children, remember there are consequences for your sarcastic tone about what’s meaningful to them,” Tarantino said.

Good. You don’t owe your parents anything, especially when they act like that :yennefer:

Can't blame him.

You don't spend money on people that is unsupportive and trying to tell that you less than who you are :giggle:

I would never question the motives of the director who made a movie in which Samuel L. Jackson's character orally raped a guy... I'm still shook by that :wtfga:

What’s the problem? He’s right. You don’t owe anyone anything, especially parents who aren’t supportive.

I think this sounds incredibly petty and ridiculous of him. His mother could be a very sweet person who had a bad moment. I always thought he was a bit of a creep.

It seems fair

No support, no money for you

He says he has helped her, but she didn't support what's now his bank account.

I'm sure there is more to the story. This seems really odd that he would treat her like this for that one moment from childhood.

Weird.. I mean my mom got frustrated plenty of times w me growing up but I can't imagine doing that. Like she literally kept me alive..

If she was abusive then I understand. But otherwise idk did she not apologize or something? Strange :enigma:

That's kind of badass to say and even do for a little while to make a point, but will he really punish his mother for the rest of her life over a sarcastic comment? sounds a bit too set in his ways, verging on cruelty. nothing new for him i guess?

There's probably more to this to be fair. I'm assuming that wasn't the first and only time she ever put him down.

Wtf this is messed up. Are Americans really that over sensitive that this **** stays with them for life 😂😂😂

She was probably trying to keep him realistic.. What are the chances of being successful as a writer? We don't know her background who  could have been very poor working class yet y'all are saying it's OK for him not to look after her. He sucks as a son tbh.

She literally raised him. What are you talking about?

I'm choosing to neither side with him nor his mother.

It really depends on the actual situation. Was this a one-off occasion and a constant discouraging behaviour on Quentin as a child? If she had been consistently discouraging and rude to him, then I guess he really does owe her nothing. But if she had tried to raise him to her best in other ways, then this was really unnecessary and ungrateful.

Or she could have been completely emotionally abusive? You sound biased against Quentin, which yeah he’s a creep, but he probably was treated poorly if this is his stance.

What business does any adult have smashing the dreams of a child? I would be withholding too, like way to make someone feel worthless when they are still growing and don’t have anything BUT you in the world.

Children directly determine their worth from how their parents treat them, and that feeling will last.
