Hey, there’s something different…

So, I’m just listening to Chromatica on Apple Music and some songs feel different, as if they would’ve changed them. Sour Candy is different (pay attention to the intro.). Stupid Love, the single version, sounds different too.

What is it? Could it be the new lossless/dobly atmos, etc. thing?

Please, someone go and check and tell me I’m not crazy. :selena:

Yes it’s the Dolby atmos thing.

Yet, I still feel they took some parts out of Sour Candy. Listen to the original intro.

…and go listen to the track in Apple Music. :selena: I could be reaching, Idk.

This makes me want to switch to AM. My whole family uses it but I use Spotify

I haven’t listened to it in awhile but the Dolby Atmos version is horrendous for that song. Like vocals come forward then back and then loud then soft and it’s all just a crazy ride :icega:

I just listened and they did! They removed the “ow” and everything sounds so reverberant.

If you wanna hear a real Dolby Atmos version of ROM listen to the one on Amazon or Tidal, it actually sounds 1000x better than the AM one and Ariana's voice sounds soooo good, you can even catch some harmonies and background vocals, it's amazing.

If you don't wanna pay for a subscription there's certain sharing forum that has the album...

You can always use "loseless" and not Dolby Atmos. I think ROM sounds fine, but I think I am crazy.

A lot of the Act I songs sound so bad with Dolby Atmos and lyrics/vocals are actually missing or dramatically reduced in volume.

Stupid Love & Rain On Me are wrecked. They CANNOT leave the Dolby versions like this.

SOMEONE @ BOBBY AND BLOOD RIGHT NOW

The melody that you choose can rescue you ♥

I just turn Dolby atmos off.

Me too which sucks because I canceled Spotify when Dolby atoms was announced. A lot of my favorite tracks just don’t sound good anymore on a lot of different albums.

So the only thing I can think of is that you have Dolby Atmos on. 1000% the Dolby Atmos versions are different mixes. Certain songs flow into the next song without DA, specifically the entire last act of Chromatica. My favorite for reference is Babylon. If you play it with DA off, you can hear the fizz from the end of 1000 Doves at the start of Babylon. With DA on, that fizz is gone and Babel is it’s own song from start to finish. All the leaked instrumentals from November 2020 are like this. I call them the unmixed versions. Just like with Madonna’s Confessions, there’s the mixed version where the entire album is one song, and the unmixed where each individual song has its own start and finish.

From this standpoint, Chromatica is definitely an enigma. Maybe someday we’ll get a properly mastered unmixed version.
