Maybe she thinks the GG will have much less pull this year on Academy voters because of their major public **** ups. The HFPA likes Ga I think so she’s probably a contender for a best actress win.

Anne Thompson had an interesting take. She didn't care for the film and believes critics won't embrace it, but that it's a crowd pleaser. She also mentioned that SAG members liked Gaga and Jared at SAG screenings. She thinks, however, that Jared and Gaga could have benefited from the Golden Globes (I'm very confused, as I thought they weren't canceled after all)...but that they could "squeak in" to SAG and Oscars even without the Globes. And she seems a bit down on Gaga and Jared's performance (she's not openly criticizing it, but I get the vibe she feels they chewed too much scenery in comparison to Adam).

Anyway, SAG loves Jared. I mean they gave him a nomination for The Little Things when most critics dragged the film and his performance...and Gucci sounds like it will have a better response than that film. So if Anne feels like SAG will look at Gaga as they look at Jared...that's a good sign.

*Anne can be wrong (and in this case, sort of already is as some of the critics are embracing the film) but she usually is fairly decent at predicting how this sort of thing goes. So the fact that she brought up SAG having a good reaction is very interesting.

There was also that tweet that the film packs in A LOT of acting more than any other film maybe ever. I know it's hyperbolic, and I'm not 100% sure what it meant, but that must mean it's a film that might appeal to actors a lot? So HOG could be a good contender for the SAGs, and since the Globes' influence might be diminished this year, that could be crucial in the film's Oscar campaign.

Good point about the GG's messiness.

Gaga would have benefited from the Critic's Choice having a comedy category (I think they did away with it a few years ago). They like her too, though (they were one of the few big awards bodies that gave her an award for ASIB)...if she gets nominated there it could help (and I believe they nominate more than 5 actresses nowadays). I could see them nominating Cruz/Gaga/Kristen/Olivia/Jessica/Frances (if she doesn't run in supporting).

SAG is generally the key though for the Oscars imo..it seems like 90% of people who get nominated for SAG go on to be nominated for an Oscar. So that's what popped out to me in terms of what Anne said...

Yeah, that's true. Actors often have a different response than critics when it comes to films that have acting with a capital A (as in Bohemian Rhapsody). I could see Gaga and Jared basically being the Rami Maleks of the season (hopefully without film twitter dragging them).

I can totally see that. Funny how I didn't really like Rami's performance in Bohemian Rhapsody, and I was one of those who side-eyed his Oscar win, and now Gaga might be on the same boat. :huntyga:

But it's our fad, so I am sure I will love it. And from the trailers, it seems there is more soul in Patrizia here than there was in Malek's Mercury.

It’s true that a GG win probably wouldn’t hold as much weight as a SAG win but it would be the easiest way for her to keep her name in contention. Well, in another year anyway. The HFPA just dug themselves into such a big hole that idk if they’ll matter at all this year. :duck:

Guys share this tweet and send him some love. He is a Variety critic that also does the Oscars predictions. He loved Gaga’s performance.

A good number of critics/predictors are saying it has a shot in Production Design. I hope MGM starts campaigning for this category too

I think even if movie doesn’t do as good as people want to it probably won’t hurt Gaga’s chances that much.
