We haven't heard anything that would warrant us to believe it will be panned. If a lot of critics shrug at it, with many also liking it, that would warrant a reaction in the 65-70% range. I frankly don't expect acclaim, but I DON'T expect a panned reaction either. The cast is too great and the story too interesting. For me, the biggest sign that it isn't going to be panned is how they are handling the release.

Very true. Also, if we are to believe AcademyQueens and Erick Weber, the film was a critical HIT in California, with NY reviews being less impressed. I just can't see this being panned. At the very worse, I could see this being like VICE: great cast that elevates a mediocre film and it gets a pass from critics (65-70% on RT). If the film was truly bad or completely mediocre, I doubt MGM would be lifting social reviews around the UK premiere tomorrow. People called him out on Twitter after talking **** about House of Gucci and he deleted them in a heartbeat, limited who can reply to his new tweets and started blocking fans left and right. He's a piece of ****. Yes I was just seeing that, it's so gross and unprofessional, and from what I saw he definitely has bias against Gaga and as well seems like he would like to see HOG fail

Among the positive stuff floating around...I've seen several people remark there's something problematic (possibly even a deal breaker) about the film. I guess we'll have to wait until the embargo lifts, but I'm curious. The only things I can think of are: A) The film ignores the fact that Jon Peters sexually harassed a ton of women. From the trailer (granted, it's just the trailer), it seems like Bradley Cooper is playing him as sort of an arrogant jackass but not a monster. B) The age gap. Alana's what...29/30...and Cooper Hoffman's all of 18 and apparently playing a 15 year old. She says something like "do you think it's weird I hang around Gary and his 15 year old friends all the time" in the trailer...which, imo, implies she's playing older (just how much older is the question). Licorice Pizza is the project everyone was calling “Soggy Bottom” right?

I'm very, very curious now... I feel like most critics are fair, but I do think PTA sort of gets a pass that a lot of other directors would not. Lotta directors were dragged or side-eyed over their relationship with Harvey Weinstein and he sort of escaped that scrutiny. Not to mention Fiona Apple heavily implied he was emotionally abusive and gave a ton of examples where he treated her like pure sh*t...I understand separating the art from the artists, but a fair amount of critics have snarked on James Cameron for being arrogant, gone after Taika Waiti for being a bit obnoxious, and they've all come for Tarantino so I was surprised that only one of the critics I follow on twitter brought up the Fiona Apple thing when Fiona spilled about it. Like I suspect if Tarantino did a film where he just..ignored Jon Peter's sexual harassment...it would definitely come up in reviews. Anyway, so it will be interesting to see a) if there is a problematic element after all (very few people are bringing it up) and b) if people will call him out for it. Socials lift on Thursday and the reviews on the 22nd (like HOG).
