Okay, so the metric here is "because they're good and influential" which I fully agree with. He makes great music. It's just odd to me that so many people single him out as a "musical genius" vs other musicians who are also influential and make good music. Is it because he says so? I feel like this is another case of Azealia Banks or Axl Rose or Marilyn Manson or Quentin Tarantino where people reconcile their problematic behavior by claiming they're utterly unique artists who create untouchable work... and I don't think that's the case. I don't know. It literally feels like you're all trying to explain Christianity to me and I'm Pagan. I adore all the art that has come from it but I don't have that connective thread of intensity from belief or fandom or whatever. Maybe it's just me.
