'Majestic' 100-pound moonfish washes up on beach

The 100-pound opah fish, also called a moonfish, was found on Sunset Beach in Seaside, a city in the northwest side of the state. The fish is “rare to the Oregon Coast,” Seaside Aquarium officials said in a Facebook post along with several images of the three-and-a-half-foot-long fish.

Keith Chandler, the general manager of Seaside Aquarium, said that an opah is “uncommon to find” and added that the fish was “in great shape.”

“They’re pretty cool fish, and we don’t normally see them on the shore,” Chandler said. “It was pretty exciting for locals.”

Due to the condition the fish was found in, Chandler believes that it had only been on the beach for less than an hour. “Unforunately, it washed up not living,” he said.

Its colors are due to the fact that is a tropical fish (obviously most tropical fish are very colorful). They are saying it's possible it swam this norh of its own (and didn't escape from somewhere). I hope it was just a natural old age death and he didn't became disoriented due to global warming like whales do.
