Wow, I am so ashamed to be polish. It is true that there people there who have very backwards beliefs, and of course they are almost always religious. I mean there is even a neo nazi movement in Poland, which is so deeply absurd and stupid.

My heart goes out to all LGBTQ Poles.

I didn't say all of them are self hating closeted gays...there are definitely straight people who just love to hate gays and let everyone around them know, but let's also not pretend that many of the more "vocal" ones are usually struggling with their own feelings and this is how they act out to convince themselves and others around them that they aren't LGBT themselves...

I just want to say that the eastern part of Poland is more homophobic than the western part of Poland. I'm not even surprised that Poland is so divided...

While I definitely believe that there are a lot of homophobes who are just compensating for being in the closet, I'm more inclined to believe that in most situations, the people who are at the forefront of things like this are the same people who are / would be standing in front of Planned Parenthoods with signs spitting and throwing stuff at desperate people looking for help. The same people who would probably say "You can be gay. Just don't shove it in my face." while ironically shoving their beliefs in everyone else's. Those people are almost always religious extremists.

Not true! The EU gave Poland two warnings as of now AND on top of that they gave Poland 2 months to respond to the warnings AND then the LGBT-free zones case will be taken to the European Union Court

As a Pole and a friend of one of the founders of "Hate Atlas", I can only (sadly) confirm this information. "Hate Atlas" is sued by politicians, local authorities and religious sects (for instance Ordo Iuris). EU sadly cannot do much about it. They can't not give us funds, which would be (probably) most effective. And what is the worst - young Polish people can't look ahead without the fear. Even if ruling party PiS will lose in next election, PO will win. Even though they are pro-european and better than PiS, they won't allow gay marriages and Catholic Church would still rule our country (yes, they basically rule it). Moreover, party Konfederacja which is basically neo nazi party is having 10% endorsement  within Poles (mostly within young 20-30 yo guys)

Not everyone in the US is a conservative. Half of the country is fighting the good fight for LGBTQ. Please don’t bash whole countries based on your “Holier than thou” opinions. Poland is outwardly banning The LGBT in certain regions, there we’re mass antivax demonstrations and protests in France this week, the UK fell of the deep end with Brexit..please don’t act like Europe is better than the US. 
 

I’m hopeful that Poland can cycle out of this, as most western countries tend to do eventually.

although, I wouldn't be so worried about lawsuits coming from Ordo Iuris, they often base their accusations on lies that don't stand up in courts.
