Demi's 'California Sober' is extremely offensive to Lala Kent

If these people have done the most to stay sober, I’m sure it will be really easy to not listen to a song if it’s triggering or offending them.

As someone struggling with substance abuse and who’s doing their ****ing hardest to stay off certain drugs, lemme just say, **** this La La Land girl or whatever. Everyone’s sobriety journey is different. If it weren’t for cigarettes and weed, I’d probably be homeless and begging for change just to get my next fix. So nah, everyone has their own personal journey, and nobody should be judging others when it comes to this type of thing.

Also, This whole “you can’t take anything while trying to be sober” mentally is so ****ing stupid. Yes, some people literally can’t even take Advil when they’re trying to be sober, and I respect their self-control and discipline. But some people can’t do that. What about those who have to take meds for depression, anxiety, bi-polar disorders, etc? Their meds also change their state of mind, but it’s necessary. Everyone’s sobriety journey is different and nobody should judge.

Oh wow, a news report where someone is actually complaining about Demi rather than it being the other way around. :poot:

I’m glad someone called Demi out for their asinine comments about sobriety. You’re either sober or you’re not. Especially when you’ve have substance abuse issues in the past.  Everyone knows that.  You can’t mess with fire when you have abuse issues.

Thank you for your asinine comment on how to be sober and how to avoid substance abuse, we truly needed your expert opinion on it!

I kid you not, I never listened willingly to a Demi's song but you're pushing me in stan's behaviour territories.

Wow this person must be fun at parties. It ain’t that deep, it’s just a cheeky figure of speech. It doesn’t take a huge IQ to know that some things aren’t supposed to be taken so literally.

Yall realise two opinions can exist simultaneously and be just as valid as each other, right.

Demi is obviously on their own journey with sobriety, their art reflects that in the song.

Someone is also allowed to find it offensive, if they are on their own journey.

Just because Demi is on their own journey doesnt mean this other person isnt on their own journey too.

please respect people with substance abuse problems.

This is ...  Ugh. The song very obviously states that this is only a step on the journey to recovery, acknowledging that the "growing up" isn't over. Demi knows the importance of sobriety, they clearly have a desire to get there in my opinion, but they are also mature and honest enough (in this situation at least) to acknowledge that they're not there yet. Would it be better for them to claim they're fully sober and post pictures of themselves partying it up all night ? Lmao. Like literally the song is about how it's very hard to stay sober in California because of all the celebrity partying there so I actually think it's a really brave and honest song. If someone wants to get offended at how another person is coping with their addiction, they should just stop listening to their music and leave them alone, seriously.

I think given Demi literally overdosed, they can cope in their own ways. Maybe offensive to some, that's perfectly fine as well lol everyone is living their own lives.

lmao anyone will tell you that an addict like Demi can NOT use alcohol or weed, because she WILL end up abusing the harder drugs again. She's an idiot.

She's right, and don't be shocked when we hear reports that Demi has OD'ed again (because california sober will lead to her abusing hard drugs again, any doctor will tell her this) and when she does it's her own fault. I have no sympathy for people who won't help themselves.

I don't believe they're an idiot. For a lot of people with addictions, going cold turkey doesn't help because they always relapse. It seems to me that Demi is still allowing themselves to dabble but in a way that is in their control because it's important that they have control of their addiction. Otherwise the addiction will always be controlling them. If they find that this California Sober method leads to harder drugs then it's something they will have to learn from and they will have to find a new way of fighting their addiction. But I think in time they will be able to reduce how much they consume until they have weened themselves off it completely. You could try to have more sympathy because nobody chooses to be an addict and substance abuse is not called a disease for no reason.
