Demi's 'California Sober' is extremely offensive to Lala Kent

I’m usually the first hater to jump on the Demi hate train on this cult site, no shame here. But who cares how they choose to handle their sobriety especially when they’re not hurting anymore. Some people have different experiences with addiction and sobriety. Smoking marijuana and drinking socially will mostly likely never kill you, but do you know what definitely will? Heroine, even on the first try. I’ve seen a lot of friends die from an overdose and a lot of other friends that haven't touched heroine since they quit. People need to learn how to mind the business that pays them. Judging other peoples sobriety on an empty stomach through a cracked phone screen!!! I could never. Demi, you deserve better

that's all, bye.

100% agreed! I used to work in an inpatient psych facility and so many people quit hard stuff. What am I supposed to say if you want to take a smoke break? Lecture you about how nicotine is also mind altering?

Was she named after the yellow creature from the children’s program Teletubbies? Anyway I think she’s full of herself. I think her attitude is the only offensive thing. Everybody is on their own journey and we need to have understanding for that. Harm reduction is a real thing and should be supported especially when someone was in Demi’s situation.

It would be offensive if Demi said that’s the right way or only way to be sober. They’re just singing about their own experience with sobriety, everyone has their own.

It’s a lot to ask someone who’s coped their entire life abusing substance to give up absolutely every single one, at once. You would be setting yourself up for failure.

It’s sad that in fact there are people who have to take their sobriety to the extreme like that, but it’s not Demi’s problem. Do what feels right for you and that’s all Im gonna say.

I’m glad someone called Demi out for their asinine comments about sobriety. You’re either sober or you’re not. Especially when you’ve have substance abuse issues in the past.  Everyone knows that.  You can’t mess with fire when you have abuse issues.

I mean Lala is right though. Many people trying to get sober and who are sober now said it’s a dangerous way of thinking. I’ve heard stories of people getting sober, taking a puff of weed or drinking some alcohol and they get hooked to that because it’s “not what they used before” so it’s “okay” and isn’t as dangerous, when it can lead back into bad habits. When you get sober, the bets and healthiest thing is just to avoid ANY milks altering drugs in anyways, even meds. The amount of people who go out of one addiction and run into another bc it’s “not the same” is crazy.

everybody can do whatever feels right and works for them. However there is of course a higher risk to fall back into an addiction by replacing one drug with another one. Especially for Demi who seems to have an addictive personality, the best course of action for them would be to not have anything at all. Demi can defo influence people with their opinion though, but they have expressed that this is what works for them, which might not work for other people.

As a person who struggles with addiction, I understand and side with Demi. Everyone will have their own opinions. :bye:

There are a lot of reasons to dislike Demi but their sobriety and how they choose to express their struggle with substance abuse isn't one of them :huntyga:

I love that song. It is Demi's journey and only Demi's. If others can't relate then don't listen to it.

This is absolutely ridiculous. Demi has been through some crazy **** and if she wants to make a song about her journey then that’s her right. This is really nit picky and annoying people love to come at her for anything

I'm actually the same way. I did lots of drugs as a dumb kid and now that I'm sober, I do not take ANY kind of pills. No dayquil, no cough syrups, nothing. Why? Because the action of taking pills gives me flashbacks of when I used to take drugs. I get extremely anxious. When I got my wisdom teeth pulled out, all 4 at the same time, I took zero of the pain meds.

But to each their own I guess.

I don’t listen to people who are afraid of DayQuil

Acetaminophen reacts really bad with my body, and I'm not allergic. I'm not sure if it's just a thing I made up in my head but ever since I got off of drugs, I cannot take any kind of medication.

Tbh, I basically find everything Demi does extremely try-hard, attention getting and, well, fake/disingenuous af. They really rubs me the wrong way. So I want to agree with Lala. But I don't.

I'm in recovery. I know plenty of people who had/have an issue with pills but can drink just fine. I know people who can't drink, but weed is fine. And then I know people who can't touch ANYTHING. (That's me, btw. I don't touch an aspirin. But my story isn't everyone's.)

As long as the person/addict is honest with themselves and those they're accountable to? Who am I to judge.

So, I'm fine with Demi calling themselves "California sober". As long as they leaves dieters alone...:staymad:
