rage and anger are valid emotions, just socially less normalized. june, in the handmaid’s tale, is also screaming and “acting out.” rightfully so: her mind and her body have been traumatized for life and she just got her sense of autonomy, integrity, and voice back (to a certain extent). she’s not taking the moral high road, i.e., the normative societal script of forgiveness that is expected from her (which, by the way, is rooted in christianity and coded by it pseudo-ethical toxicity—the very thing that subjugated and silenced her into a literal slave that is expected to be abused without consequences). instead, she’s expressing, in whatever (in)articulate manner she is able to, that she has been hurt—that she is hurting.

it’s not a perfect parallel, i’m aware, but britney also just got her voice back (again, to a certain extent). she is using it to say: i’m beyond hurt by what has been, and is, happening to me. so the ones daring to question the appropriateness of her behavior: who are you to tell her, or limit, what and when to say? it’s them that should get off their high horses and meet a fellow human with compassion, as opposed to criticism that reiterates the dynamic of her previous predicament, on the ****ing ground. she is grounding herself, i think. try to meet her there, not on some lofty cloud of appropriateness. it might not look pretty—but it’s definitely healthier than following the ways of toxic positivity and empty forgiveness.

remember, taylor also stated that you can move on without forgetting and forgiving. it’s possible. britney seems to be in agreement with her.
