I’m a neuro nurse. Guillain-Barre can happen from a lot of different viruses. It pretty much triggers an autoimmune reaction where your body starts to attack it’s own nerves. 
 

Don’t get me wrong, Guillain-Barre is scary, but this doesn’t surprise me. Also, most people recover. It can be serious though, because it can paralyze your respiratory muscles so you can’t breathe. 
 

TLDR; you can get Guillain-Barre from a lot of things, just living your daily life. While this is scary, it’s still v uncommon.

My grandfather nearly passed about 20 years ago after he got Guillain-Barre, most likely from getting the flu vaccine. I wasn't old enough to remember what it was like for him, but I know that afterwards he lost a lot of his taste and strength in his legs. Not sharing this to scare people, but to show that in life and in medicine, there are always going to be risks. 

I think it's difficult because if you don't disclose these cases and side effects, people will say that you're covering something bigger up. But if you do, even extremely rare cases can be harmful for public health by scaring people 

edit: please please do get the vaccine if you have for some reason chosen not to, because people like my grandfather have been recommended to avoid it by doctors. So please do your part to protect those who cannot be protected by the vaccine.

I got the J&J vaccine in April, and I’m fine. Never even felt pain in my arm for a moment. It’s superior to all other Covid vaccines on the market, and the science has proven it time and time again. 
This is just going to be one potential risk added to the lonnnngggg list of risks with any vaccine. 
The J&J vaccine uses the same technology we’ve been using for a majority of our vaccines for decades, and it’s already proven to not require a booster dose unlike the other Covid vaccines. It’s also been proven to work against the delta variant.
