Thoughts?

Do you think she’s been cast already, and is just keeping it secret?

Honestly, of all 3 actresses I’ve heard be considered for this film (the others being Amanda Seyfried and Julia Garner) she’s the one I’d pick. Also surprised she's not casting her daughter (or even herself).

I can see it. Tbh Idk how to feel about the movie, though. Madonna telling her own story might not be all that interesting since she doesn’t always have the best retrospective view of things. I don’t think most artists do. I’d be really curious to see someone do a movie in 40+ years or whenever Madonna has passed. I’d like to see a biopic once we’ve had some time to consider her legacy rather than make a movie as it’s in motion. The Elton movie is a little different namely because he’s retiring and actually applied a dec amount of fairness in the portrayal of himself.

Yeah I recently listened 5 episodes of a podcast dedicated to her biography. And it was so well done and respectful, while still very honest. That it got me thinking about the biopic. Because I fear she could make her legacy look less impressive than it actually is, by for example leaving out/rewriting commercial failures and altering her story far too much.

I could see Miley Cyrus as a right choice

Idk about Miley, but Hannah Montana can really pull it off :toofunny:

No but for real something that would put me off if Miley played Madonna is her speaking voice Miley has such a deep voice, idk if I would be able to see Madonna and not Miley on the film.

13 | this is my dancefloor i fought for, your voice is louder, it echoes

I don't see her as Madonna at all, but she's a great actress so she can probably pull it off

I can totally see that!

Just the other day I was watching Miley’s medley of Madonna songs at her Pride show, and thought she could totally play M.

Full medley here:

everyone paints themselves in a much more forgiving light than the truth. this biopic will be no different and thus is a skip for me.

Exactly! I don’t mean like make her sound like this awful pos but she’s had a REALLY fascinating career and tbh I don’t think she tends to be very forthright about just how fascinating some of those elements are (which is understandable when it’s your life/you’re really close to the situations without any shred of objectivity). I think biopics need to be like Judy. It gave a stunning portrayal of her from a powerhouse actress and focused on a really often ignored part of her life and illuminated how important every moment of a person’s life is.

ps. Pass the podcast rec, please :)

Truthfully, I'd love to see Amanda Seyfried in the role. In Mank, she looked eerily similar to Express Yourself/Blonde Ambition-era Madonna.

But beyond that, from what I have seen, I feel like Amanda has the acting chops (and versatility) to possibly play Madonna.

I just hope Madonna is honest with herself with the creation of this film, and hopefully she will find it useful to consult with some of her past friends/acquaintances to help her depict a movie focused on reality rather than vanity.

In other words, I hope she can push her ego out of the way in order to give fans an interesting/layered story. But it's Madge, so who knows? :huntyga:
