Data is suggesting that 1 dose of an mRNA vaccine is still quite effective at preventing deaths and hospitalizations even tho its only 33% effective at preventing symptoms

 

Tho the protection against these variants such as Delta is much more limited... it still provides enough to in most cases prevent u from reaching the threshold of severity where illness gets severe

 

2 doses are even more effective naturally

There was a really great Nature publication about how the Pfizer/BioNTech mRNA vaccine stimulates a type of immune cell (T cell) that recognizes and destroys 22 other coronavirus variants 

Not only do these vaccine stimulate good antibody production, but they also get the assassin-like T cells involved!

It is fantastic that we're finally getting solid data on how these vaccines affect our cellular immunity. Again the antibody responses are already impressive! Since the vaccines activate both this is going to really help curb the spread of variants worldwide as more folks get vaccinated.

Are we still seriously concerned about whether to get the vaccine? 

I am from a country that is still at least a year from making it available to me or my parents. 

But, ****, if you are able to get it, why won't you? There is very little that can be more negative than death on the pro/con scale.

As a big guy with asthma and a history of smoking, I hesitantly elected to take the first dose of the experimental drug Moderna. I would never get the second or any booster. Too many unknowns still. But I am glad whenever I read updates on the efficacy of a single dose.

Even with all that data idiots online will still press the fact that they don't trust the vaccine. Science has gotten us so far as a society you think they would start being more open minded.

If I were you I’d be more scared of COVID with those pre-existing conditions. 

Just get the second dose if you already got the first, for f*ck’s sake.

Unless your doctor advised this, please get your second shot. I have bad asthma too and covid would wreck my lungs endless times more than a vaccine that does not target my lungs to begin with. That's not how immunization works, and taking 1 dose isn't ideal for you or anyone else. If you took 1 dose, there is no reason not to take 2. If you're not convinced, talk to your doctor about it, I'm sure they'll tell you to get it too. Covid has way more unknowns and higher chances of hurting you. It's not the time for every one of us to experiment with vaccine doses as we please.
