They are treating BTW as a cash cow instead of celebrating it

You want her to personally come to your house and sing Government Hooker?

Bloody Mary for me please :flower:

But yeah, let's be real, they treated BTW as a literal cash  ̶c̶o̶w̶ unicorn when it was originally released too, that's the music business for ya.

Celebrate in your own way, with your friends or online community, and don't expect something perfect from anyone else or you'll end up disappointed.

Maybe not exploit the gay community for monetary gain? Corporations do this all the time and i wish her team didn't go this route

What Gaga did is basically landmark album anniversary standard operating procedure. Part of the proceeds for the Versace shirts goes to her foundation and she literally made a cover album featuring lgbtq+ acts. Most would just issue an expensive box set and some merch. Also merch prices are dictated by the label/contractor.

If she didn’t do anything everyone will still complain. I think people are being too romantic here, at the end of the day Gaga is a mainstream commercial artist.

It's just a random merch for the anniversary :huntyga:

Everyone do that, so I don't think it's an exploitation. And the real anniversary celebration was the remix of BTW album with LGBTQA++ singers.

And pride month just started.

I don't really think there's anything wrong with having expensive things for sale, but I think they should also have some things for affordable prices that most fans could actually afford. I remember the merch from the BTW era and there were tons of fun keychains, bobbles, sunglasses, etc. that weren't expensive (if I recall) and it just made it fun to collect and dress up and celebrate the album. It felt more aligned with the album's spirit.

I also am saddened by the lack of size-inclusivity, especially from the exclusive UO merch. I would love to buy and wear a couple of the tees but it's not even an option for me. Her official store has a little more range, but for an album that celebrates inclusivity and diversity it feels a little counterintuitive.

She/her 💗💜💙

I'm not sure how else you expect them to celebrate the anniversary if it's not to throw merch at you. And that's not a drag or anything, but this is basically how all album anniversaries go, if the artists even celebrates it at all. Record labels aren't going to do anything if they're not going to make money from it.

Do you realize tons of fans love buying merch? "Exploiting" :toofunny: Touch some grass

Good for them, just because they love it doesn't mean they aren't being exploited.  Everything doesn't have to be about money but it seems nowadays companies love waving pride flags if it can get them some coin

Everything gaga has ever put out has been for purchase. Literally find something about her career that you liked and either she was selling you a product or if you were watching for free YOU were the product?

albums? Tours? Merch?
five foot two got sold to netflix ( a product) so that her fans would get/keep netflix (product)

fame perfume? Product. Gaga getting thrown up on? Product placement for doritos. Music video? Ads before and after. Super bowl? Ten million dollar ad.

I don’t know what world you think you live in where this is the 12th/13th year of being a gaga fan and you JUST NOW are realizing theres a business behind it

You can choose to ignore all the merch and all the useless partnerships like I do :bear:

I love LG so much and I celebrate all her good endeavors and her music, but the merch has always been a questionable matter with her. An easy way to gain some money by selling useless stuff.

Or putting her name on some cookies or some alcohol for whatever reason. :yennefer:

Lmao just because you saw a viral post about companies changing their logo rainbow doesnt mean you can just apply it to every situation without people pointing out inconsistencies.

Yeah i guess you are right, maybe i just expected more from them but after all they are just there to make money. I was kind of daydreaming we would get some kind of special performance of btw on the piano or a one off q&a about the album but instead it is just things thrown at us to buy.
