How do you interpret Shallow’s chorus?

I still don't understand the contradictory lyrics of:

i disagree, it's not about love, it's about understanding, in the movie they are astonished at how they can find themselves in each other, ally writes it and then jackson completes it the first time they play it live, i think it represents their deep artistic and personal connection, they fall in love later in the movie.

That's a good interpretation for how the song fits in where it is in the movie but it was originally supposed to be at the end and they wrote the song itself with Ally and Jackson's relationship in mind, yeah?

I guess there can be multiple interpretations

hahaha because they were in the shallow, but they are far from the shallow now
they never imply they are  in it and far from it at the same time, the "now" is there for something haha

The song is about 2 lovers having sex and they are talking to each other through the song, the chorus is about what she's feeling at the moment and the power of intimacy between 2 people.

it's really str8 forward. it's about being in a bad place but coming out alive, something Jackson Maine has yet to achieve.

 

Let me explain.

 

"im off the deep end. watch as I dive in"

falling into and endless pit of misery. 

 

" I'll never meet the ground [ocean floor]"
this means not hitting the ocean floor after diving in. it's metaphorical.

 

this, of course, means being down badddd but not hitting rock bottom despite everything being terrible.

 

"crash through the surface [of the water]. where they cant hurt us"

self explanatory. coming out alive after being down turrible.

 

"we're far from the shallow now"

Isn't that supposed to mean the seabed (or whatever) that is in the bottom of the water (ground), since it's so deep that she'll never hit the bottom.

I think it's about falling wrecklessly in love. Diving in head first and knowing that there's no going back.

On a few levels: it's of course about Ally and Jack's relationship, but I think it's also about Ally's journey of allowing herself to really be seen, put herself out there, and have her whole world fall apart so that she can be reborn as a star.

Shallow was Gaga’s solo song created for the end credits - right after Jackon’s death in the ocean. 
 

then they changed the script and also Mark Ronson saw the potential of Shallow, they reworked it to the collab and put it in the middle of the movie as a key scene. 

The fact that Shallow was meant to be some credit song is insane while we know what happened to this song and how much it smashed.
