ANVEEROY 61,291
Looking back at it 10 years later, however, the album does still sound and feel largely like a triumph. While certainly flawed, the set contains highlights that have endured as some of Gaga's finest -- and removed from the seemingly endless promotional cycle that surrounded it, the album's arguable bloat feels more charming for its ambition than over-extended in its reach. In honor of Born This Way's upcoming 10th anniversary, some of Billboard's now-grown Little Monsters have assembled to take stock of the album a decade later: discussing our memories of its release, the songs that have aged the best, the parts that still make us wince a little, and what we think the set's ultimate legacy is in 2021. Eggs 2,776
Nice enough but no one said anything especially interesting or really cut to the heart of what makes Born This Way such a special album. And I cannot BELIEVE they let someone in to say that Sheiße and Government Holker are the worst songs on the album, and that The Fame Monster is better. HuffsAhoy 7,433
Overall an okay think piece. But, frankly, it's a poorly...dare I say offensive...written article that fails to really capture why Born This Way is her most important work, and one of the greatest albums of the 21st century. I mean, this is not a glowing write-up when terms like "flawed" and "bloated" are thrown out up front. The opinions, if you can call them that, by some of the members of this roundtable are so off the rails it's like hearing nails on a chalkboard. I get it, the album is polarizing. And for people that aren't capable of higher level thinking, it can be a lot of digest. But I am tired of the disrespect BTW gets among her catalog while a certain 8 track album continually gets people off. They should have gotten true fans of the album for a piece like this. Here's hoping some other magazines will publish a respectable retrospect in the coming days that recognizes the album for what it is, her magnum opus. You remind me that it's such a wonderful thing to love.
Mister G 10,488
Some of the commentary on the article definitely took me back to all of 2011 from the vessel at The Grammy's to Jo Calderone at the VMA's. A few songs are definitely still cringeworthy today but the truth like that one person said, nothing about the Born This Way project was fake. People are stuck in 2008/2009 with The Fame and The Fame Monster and some of the roundtable participants struck me as stuck in those eras. And you're right they didn't really deep-dive into the significance of this album or era which I was disappointed to see...then again Billboard hasn't been on people's good sides this week for other reasons... Wet Fire 7,764
None of the members of the roundtable seem to have their life changed by the album. And there are A LOT such monsters whose lives were changed, saved by BTW. Would've been better to include them in this article because it doesn't delve deep into the emotional impact of the album on little monsters. Also, Scheiße as one of the worst songs on the album? Really?
