Would Lorde be more popular if she hadn't taken such long breaks?

Now, let me clarify: I don't think Lorde is unpopular because I myself am a huge fan and have been since her debut, but after debuting 8 years ago with Pure Heroine, she only has 2 albums to her name. Obviously people know who Lorde is, but could she have been a lot bigger if she hadn't taken such long breaks between albums? If she had released another album a year or two after Pure Heroine when she was still riding high on the coattails of that album, could she have been catapulted into a major household name like Taylor Swift or Ariana Grande? When people think of "main industry girls" they think of Gaga, Ariana, Britney, Rihanna, Bey, Taylor, but could Lorde have become a part of that category as well?

Do you think it was a mistake to take a break after releasing PH? Since it was extremely popular and did well. Why do you think she decided to dip at the height of her career?

Career-wise it's a no-brainer, the answer is yes. But I imagine that she focuses on different things in life since she's seen massive success already. I think she has a healthy approach and doesn't pressure herself to put out an album. When she does, it won't do as well commercially as the first two, and that'll be okay.

With the right song/music, she can be whatever she wants to be. The GP doesn't think of pop starts as seriously as we sometimes do.

I'm honestly not sure if Lorde would ever be on the level of the other main girls. She brings something to the table none of them do, a kind of intellectual sophistication.

You remind me that it's such a wonderful thing to love.

Probably, but I don't think she wants to. I would much rather have her release amazing music every 4 years or so than have her throw song after song just to be more present and popular.

The only correct aswer, melodrama was indeed a body of work, masterpiece, biggest crime and robbed at the grammys

It really was a bigger travesty than BTW losing album of the year :bradley: But we know in our hearts that Melodrama was not only album of the year but THE album of a generation.

She's always struck me as someone who creates music only when she absolutely feels she has something to say. Her songs never lack significant meaning.

I think she needed time to grow up and find herself first of all.

She's not like any other American 15 years old princess singer that grew up to their the 20s music that we are used to, she's not from the USA so the market is very different and very very far.

She can be pretty much forgotten by now or she can be break the market once again.. Kylie Minogue is the closest to her geographically and she didn't break it many times in the USA, so it's a risk to take, it's to nail it with the materials or to really fail.. or to bring the best song ever and the USA will just ignore it...

I can really understand why she's taking long breaks, it's a risk to create music to a market that may simply ignore your whole work just because you're not American.

So sploosh your juice all over me you Riverboy

From a simple marketing strategy yeah...even if she wasn't putting out original music she could have been on a few feature singles in the interim, but she has been gone for YEARS and she lives in a completely different country now so the music scene has honestly forgotten about her...

You don't even hear any of her music on radio...not a paparazzi shot...social media chats...nothing

When she comesback people will be like..."Who? Oh yeah!" :laughga:

Basically this.. She is serving Adele aka waiting and gaining the momentum one record at the time.

Adele takes forever to release albums and she seems to  be out of the spotlight and stay to herself a lot, but yet she’s one of the most famous and loved artists out there. I don’t see why Lorde can’t have a similar destiny assuming her album is good and promotes it. Yes
