"Frances McDormand has won the Best Actress Academy Award at the 2021 Oscars Sunday night for her celebrated performance in “Nomadland.” It’s a historic win: In taking home her third Best Actress statuette, McDormand has now won the prize more times than anyone else besides Katharine Hepburn."

It’s a great feat, but it should be noted that she isn’t the only actress to have won 3 competitive Oscars, which the OP is a bit unclear about.

Technically, she hasn’t won more acting Oscars than Meryl Streep and Ingrid Bergman either. Which doesn’t take away from her success, but let’s be precise.

yup! Meryl Streep and Ingrid Bergman have both won 3 competitive Oscars too, but those were a mix of Best Actress and Best Supporting Actress wins. The article was talking specifically about most number of Best Actress wins, wherein Frances McDormand is second only to Katharine Hepburn (who had won 4). Still an amazing amazing feat for all these ladies though :applause:

What a legend. Although I was hoping for Carey to win this one, there's no denying that Frances is one of the greatest living actresses

I think the academy is quite often shooting themselves in the foot by not awarding more up-and-coming actors when they have the chance... It creates situations where people like Kate Winslet end up being awarded for movies everybody forgot about, and not for their actual greatest roles. I also think Carey should have won, Frances really didn’t need another Oscar, she literally has nothing left to prove. I had similar feelings when Gary Oldman won over Timothée Chalamet a few years ago, like... OK, Oldman’s Oscar was long overdue, but not for that part. Not when there was a literal career-making performance next to it.
