Why was Gagachella not very Gaga

So someone recently uploaded the full version of Gagachella to YouTube and I watched it for the first time in years. It reminded me how lackluster the performance was for Gaga's normal standards. One outfit change, both of which were just black bodysuits. Pretty tame hair and makeup. Vocals were amazing, but Gaga's energy and enthusiasm seemed so low, and I know people speculated that she may have even been high. For Coachella to be such a big deal I just feel like it seemed a little subpar, and again this is cause Gaga normally brings 110% to everything she does.

I know she had just come of the Superbowl but she was literally stepping in for Beyonce so I feel like she really needed to bring it. Don't get me wrong, it was still sickening and I loved seeing her perform, I just felt like it was missing a little something. Was something else going on behind the scenes?

Because Coachella is not supposed to be seen on TV lol it started as this "underground" festival. She was free to do what she wanted that night, that's probably why she wanted to relax and not have a lot of outfit changes and just focus on the music which was a great setlist, a lot of fan favorites. I think it's one of the most "Gaga" things she has done. The Superbowl on the other hand, it's amazing but she had to be very "tamed" because she was performing in front of the whole world and wanted to keep that "American lets just focus on the music" image.

And like you said, she was informed like the very last minute to step in because of Beyoncé's pregnancy so she planned that in less than a week. DJWS snapped with the interludes as well.

- Last minute planning 
- ASIB shooting in the same time

I think all in all, it was a great show.

There was very little time to prepare. The setlist was very 'Gaga' though, amazing choices. It may be her best setlist ever.

It was during the Joanne era and during ASIB filming so she was definitely at her least Gaga. She didn't have much time to prepare and obviously was more focused on her role as Ally.

It's annoying some of her biggest gigs happened during the Joanne era. If they'd happened any other era they would no doubt have been much better.

I think it’s important to note that even when she’s less eccentric, she’s still Gaga. She’s just a chameleon with many different shades. I like that she can have crazy a$$ gigs like the doritos vomit show, but also tame ones like Gagachella to highlight her versatility as a performer.

I liked the show upon the second watch but oof... you should’ve seen the reactions when it was live lol it was vicious. I think the show could’ve been MUCH better and I think her surprise Coachella performance for last year was probably going to be a redemption of sorts, but I think since she only had three weeks to prepare, she deserves credit for pulling it off as she did. ALSO the camera angles were ****. I bet most of you didn’t even know there were fireworks during Venus lol

Remembering that time, she definitely was doing a lot of stuff. But to me personally it was an amazing concert, i can't of course compare it with SB.

She was literally filming a movie at the same time. It’s hard for a method actor to go in and out of their character like that. I really admire that she put on a blonde wig and performed for us.
