American Life is the ninth studio album by singer and songwriter Madonna, released on April 21, 2003 via Maverick and Warner Bros. Records. The album’s lyrics feature several references to many parts of American culture, which is the basis for the album’s theme. A total of four official singles were released from the album: American Life, Hollywood, Nothing Fails and Love Profusion. The album debuted at #1 during it’s first week of release, selling 241,000 copies. The song “Die Another Day”, which is included on the album, was first released as a single via the James Bond ‘Die Another Day’ Soundtrack in 2002.

never liked it, very pretentious lyrics, and absolutely not about the war... the anti-war angle was added after the album was recorded

Might be an unpopular opinion but this is my favorite Madonna album overall. Every single song is so good, but my faves are Easy Ride, X Static Process and Nothing Fails :tony:

So long ggd, it was nice while it lasted.

yes, the album... it's not an anti-war album... it's an album about fame and personal struggles.... there is absolutely no anti-war angle

Also, the original American Life video is just incredible. It is perfectly American, and represents what America is from the point of view of a lot, a LOT of countries.

So long ggd, it was nice while it lasted.

There is absolutely nothing on the original post that says anti-war anyway, what are you on, sis :laughga:

One of my least favorite Madonna albums for the longest time until last year during lockdowns when I really took the time to listen to the lyrical content of the songs. I still feel the first three songs are rather weak but everything from Love Profusion to Easy Ride is god tier; though I did live for the performance of the title track during the Madame X Tour.  It's definitely an underrated gem among Madonna's Immaculate Collection :whitney:

You remind me that it's such a wonderful thing to love.

I used to hate this album so much because it came from Ray of Light and Music to something about war but I was so young and didn't care about it. Takes years to truly appreciate this and Mirwais' sound. Another risky move in her career with that music video.

Nothing Fails easily Top 5 Madonna songs ever. :tony:

I liked this album a lot

But interviews from that era are really sad

She was talking about her past work in a really bad way

She said that she was doing things just to shock people and it wasn't that deep

And I don't think it's true, it seemed like people told her that so many times for so many years that she believed it herself at the end and it's heartbreaking to me, idk

red wine, cheap perfume and a filthy pout
