I had the vaccine, but I think people have every right to decide what they want injected into their bodies. I don't blame people being skeptical either. Many different medications, products, etc. that were once thought to be completely safe have had to be recalled over the years.

You're MUCH more likely to have a blood clot from taking birth control pills than you are from taking a vaccine from Moderna or AstraZeneca.

Let's break down this 'my body, my choice' argument:

Firstly, this isn't the same as the abortion debate. Yes, you have the right to do what you want with your body. But the context isn't about having a baby, sex reassignment or even something cosmetic like piercings. It's happening because there is a global pandemic. 'Your choice' affects others.

Secondly, we all have a social responsibility to care for others. Mask wearing is an example of that, but it's not foolproof and many people don't do it properly. By refusing a vaccine or waiting to get a 'better' one, you're increasingly the risk of others getting the disease and dying, including many who would want the vaccine you're refusing but genuinely can't have it. You are prolonging the pandemic and letting it worsen.

Thirdly, remember that other vaccines aren't risk-free. Did you know that Pfizer and Moderna vaccines both have higher rates of anaphylaxis than J&J and AZ? This allergic reaction can kill and cause long-term damage, and the causes surrounding it are still not fully known. BUT the risk is still insanely low, just like the blood clots. 

The worst part is people complaining about the risk of side effects when they're wandering about aimlessly in pandemic that has a higher risk of putting themselves and the vulnerable in danger.

Well they actually shortly after i made this thread they lowered the age for the astrazeneca vaccine to 40 in Ontario...

 

So for now theres more ppl that can access them and they wont go to waste

I am absolutely pro-Vaccine, however, I think people should have the right to choose. First world problems? Perhaps but not always.

I live in an Arab country, I registered to get the jab as soon as they announced they would begin the rollout. With the latest news, I’ve been calling the hotline to try and explain my medical history for the past 2 months but it’s AstraZeneca or the highway. I am not a national of the country and it seems Pfizer is reserved for only that segment (racism 101), and I’m not refusing AZ “just because”. I had a brain aneurysm that was operated on 10 years ago and ended up with a coil in my brain, so I’m prone to blood clots. They just won’t listen. I haven’t been out in public (except solo car rides) since March 17th last year. I haven’t seen any friends, family, haven’t been to a restaurant, cafe, supermarket, mall, nothing. I rely strictly on deliveries and I’ve just about had it. I cannot voluntarily and willingly go take a shot that may or may not cause me severe side effects and then drop dead at the age of 34. 

In general, I think there should be better, more transparent communication between governments and the people everywhere. Giving short, simple statements (or in cases, orders) doesn’t put people at ease.

Thats different tho... ur more prone to clots so i get ur hesitation... just like young pregnante women have been shown to disproportionately be more prone to this astrazeneca clot

 

But the odds are exeptionally low even among the general population... for those over 55 its virtually unheard of... so unless ur in a higher risk than most it doesnt make sense to me to refuse this vaccine over others that have their own risks anyway

 

Like yeah ppl technically have the right to refuse it... but i feel like those personal decisions are being fueled by either misinformation or a lack of balanved perspective... most ppl refusing it are not in some higher risk group like you
