I would also argue hes been in a very tough position. Shut things down too long and businesses die... open up and ppl die of covid... half measures u get a bit of both...

My biggest criticism of him in the pandemic is he is not always targeting the stuff where spread actually happens the most and small businesses should have gotten more assistance than they did. And only essential items being allowed to be sold during shutdowns should of been done earlier as to not unfairly give big box stores a competitive edge over smaller stores in malls or any mom and pop independants some cities have (my city only has chains tho basically)

But overall for most things were in a situation where theres almost never perfect decisions. Your dammed if you do and dammed if you dont

It shouldnt be surprising in almost every Country people arent happy with their government. But its a pandemic, theres no way to avoid suffering of one kind or another realistically. No human leader has the power to prevent that

You're right, the truth is the government are not magic, they can't just fix everything with a wave of a wand and it is inevitable that some mistakes will be made.

However I still think it's reasonable to hold politicians to high standards and Dougie's not been great, pre-pandemic or otherwise. But I am also not big business minded at all, my entire life I have only worked for small businesses where I had direct contact with the owners on a daily basis, so Doug's economic policies and ways of running things are very out of my wheelhouse.

No i agree. Theres definitely mistakes hes made he should be accountable for. Theres decisions he made that have been just plain bad

Im just saying a lot of ppl are putting a level of blame on Ford (as are people also doing to other leaders in their own Countries and jurisdictions) that i think is unfairly disproportionate to the reality if their power.

While leaders should be accountable for their mistakes its also important to keep in perspective how hard it is to navigate a pandemic like this and often there isnt always perfect decisions and because ppl are frustrated and wanna lash out and look for someone to blame they dont always do that

The only way to prevent this would be to do what some Countries did like New Zealand and Australia did which was to go into severe lockdown right away and be strict woth border quickly very early in pandemic to try and irradicate it... we should have done that but we didnt so now its not that easy and we gotta deal with it

But i think its also easy to say that looking back at it now. At the time we werent sure how this was gonna play out and had we known this pandemic was going to get this out of control and drag on this long more governments probably woulda made that decision as well. But weve had so many false alarms of potential pandemics over the decades and the worst case scenario never came to be and its been 100 years since last major pandemic. Its not surprising they dont go into full lockdown mode everytime theres a threat

Wrong decisions were made. But when ppl hold leaders accountable to mistakes, the degree or severity of criticism should at least acknowledge and keep in mind that during uncertanty and hard to deal with situations even the most competent human beings in the world will often make mistakes. I think thats inevitable

:popcorn:but lockdowns work, right? @HuffsAhoy

I mean death rates since beggining of pandemic kinda do prove they do. All the places with lax restrictions in general had more people die (and i mean per capita i dont even just mean in total numbers cuz obviously population size will affect that)

The US has consistently had more infections and deaths per capita than Canada non stop for the last year and a half

The fact that Canada now has finally surpassed the US (by a very small margin on top of that) when the US is also ahead in vaccinations doesnt somehow prove ur theory the lockdowns didnt work :toofunny:

Oh no, I'm not going down this rabbit hole again :lmao:

The situation up there is vastly different. Based on the anecdotal commentary from my fiancé and friends, the lockdowns in Ontario were lifted early in all three cases. Instead of the slow and steady approach many states here have taken, they seemed to just open the floodgates all at once. Another mistake I think they made was going with the "regional" protocols instead of keeping the entire province under the same guidelines. Here in North Carolina the entire state has been under the same modified reopening since May 2020. Every few weeks, the government reassesses the covid numbers and eases the restrictions as needed. Right now all retail is open to full capacity, dining is up to 75%, and other indoor area like bars, movie theatres, etc are at 50% across the board. This is one reason why we have been able to lift restrictions while keeping our numbers down.

You remind me that it's such a wonderful thing to love.

Considering Germanies population is just over double of Canadas (Canada just under 40 Milliom, Germany a little over 80 Million) that actually puts our current infection rate per capita rougly the same then :ladyhaha:

:yennefer: oh well

I wrongly assumed Canada must have roughly the same number of inhabitants or an even larger number of population than Germany.

Nope. We are between 38M and 39M right now :selena:

although for most of pandemic we did keep daily cases below 2000 to 3000 but were hitting another peak now in 3rd wave ever since variants

Canada is actually still in the top 1/3 of Countries by population but given the very large size by land (2nd largest to Russia) we have massive plots of land totally empty. Some perhaps as big as Germany especially in the North :ladyhaha:

22%+ of Quebec's population having at least one dose... when will Ontario? @Economy :poot:

How are the doses being distributed to Canada btw, is it proportionate to population? Im wondering why there would be a gap

So how can one Province be that ahead of others? Are some doses just sitting there logistically failed to be given out?

Because... Ford was like "we need more vaccines!!!" and "it's Justin's fault!!!" while there were like 200k+ doses waiting in the fridge :poot:
