RAMROD 117,027
Biological fathers in Utah will be legally required to pay half of a woman’s out-of-pocket pregnancy costs under a new law unique to the state that critics say doesn’t do enough to adequately address maternal health care needs. The bill’s sponsor has presented the measure as an effort to decrease the burden of pregnancy on women and increase responsibility for men who have children. But some critics argue the new legislation won’t help women who are most vulnerable and could make abusive situations even more dangerous for pregnant women. Utah appears to be the first state to mandate prenatal child support, according to the state’s Planned Parenthood association and the bill’s sponsor. But a few states, including Wisconsin and New York, have provisions that can result in fathers being financially responsible for pre-birth expenses. Gov. Spencer Cox, a Republican, recently signed the proposal, which received widespread support in the GOP-controlled Legislature. Republican Rep. Brady Brammer said he decided to sponsor the measure because he had grown frustrated with the number of anti-abortion measures going through the Legislature and wanted to pursue legislation that would make it easier to bring life into the world. Hope this will make some of those bois think twice before they nut inside if they are not responsible type In a way is good, but this part tough; “We want to help people and actually be pro-life in how we do it as opposed to anti-abortion,” Brammer said. “One of the ways to help with that was to help the burden of pregnancy be decreased.”“ Who are they kidding? Economy 52,844
I think this is good in a way to not unfairly burden the woman... The only downside i see is women have more control over whether or not to keep a baby. A woman can end it if she chooses and decides she doesnt want the baby, but if the dad doesnt want it he doesnt really have that control so he has to be on the hook? I dunno Edit: If America had Universal healthcare like almost every other developed Nation such a dilema wouldnt even exist

Equality between men and women also includes both parties having some sort of say. I don’t think a woman should be the sole decision maker. Both parties were mature enough to engage in sex, they should be mature enough to come to a conclusive decision made between one another. I do see the point of woman having to endure the labor and pain of carrying the child; however, I just doesn’t seem right to cast the opinions of the father out the window. That way of thinking is very dangerous in my humble opinion. May I Read You? 😎

That wasnt the point But a baby becomes a 18 year responsibility not just the first 9 month phase. So i dont think its fair for men to have no rights at all in decision making processes or legal stuff involving costs Women may ultimately have the power whether or not to keep a baby. But if a woman decides to keep the baby then i think other responsibilities and commitments that comes with a baby have to be consentual if a woman expects a man to pay child support or have other forms of support. Again its an 18 year comitment legally. Pregnancy is just the first 9 months. It may not be possible for both sides to compromise if they disagree. Either she has it or she doesnt and ultimately one had to decide and makes sense it would be the woman since she has to go thru the pregnancy. But the rest after the pregnancy phase i dont think becomes exclusively about the womans rights anymore Of course i also think if a man refuses she also has every right to not let him be in the childs life

HuffsAhoy 7,433
Sounds good to me. I just hope this doesn't make it harder for women to get out of abusive relationships. You remind me that it's such a wonderful thing to love.
Mindblown 6,744
Hopefully the assault on woman doesn't jump from biological dads who don't want the baby to be born/deal with the costs of it.

Butters Stotch 5,379
I wonder what will happen if the dad doesn't want the baby to be born? I think that if we expect women to have the right to choose if they want to continue the pregnancy, the father should have the right to do the same thing. What if he doesn't? Does he still have to pay? FIND YOUR FREEDOM IN THE MUSIC

My take is this: Having a baby is a 18 year comitment and signing up for that comitment should have consent from both parties During the first 9 months (pregnancy phase) theres no way to compromise. Either she has the baby or she doesnt. Given its her body if theres a disagreement the woman should be the one that gets to decide However all other responsibilities involved woth having a child whether its financial costs or family life comitment, 1 side cant force the other i dont think. I dont think its fair that the woman should get to dictate everything involved with raising a child just because she has the power to decide over the pregnancy phase specifically Before the baby is born the woman has the upper hand in decision making. But everything after that rights should be equal for both...
GoldenPonyboy 2,434
Im a man so i will not speak on a womans choice because i do think i it is their right to choose. However, i do also believe that men should be able to sign their paternal rights away if they choose to do so.
