I was under the impression that Gaga's dad Joe Germanotta was born and raised in italy

Sorry for being a bad fan but what's the story behind Gaga's I'm Italian extravaganzza?

Sometimes she says she is Italian, FULLY Italian, sometimes new york italian or Brooklyn Italian

she seems to be very proud  this video is 1 hour long

Let's keep it polite so our sweet fifthonic mods don't close us

According to ladygaga.fandom.com her dad was born in New Jersey. Her granddad from Italy (Sicily)

She's more american than italian. However I think she could get an italian citizenship, her granmother could trasmit that to her father and he could do the same with her...

Not sure how reliable this article is but interesting read:

https://luminosityitalia.com/news/Lada-Gaga-Sicily-news.html

“If it is true that Lady Gaga has such a strong connection to Sicily, she should visit Naso,” says Carmen Caliò, municipal secretary of Naso and local art expert. “Maybe she should care more about her village of origin if she is truly tied to her roots,” Caliò insists. :toofunny:

REALITY

I find it hilarious that after all these years of us making a joke about how we ~know~ that Gaga's Italian, we still have to question it :selena:

She's Italian-American. She owns the fact that she grew up in New York, but she is proud of her Italian heritage and she's obviously close to it.

I don’t know. I feel like a lot of Americans say they’re Italian, French, German, etc. or whatever just because they have ancestors even tho they are like 2nd, 3rd plus generation in the USA. I never understood the harm in someone saying they’re American with ancestry from other counties. :duck:

Her dad is fully Italian I think. Her mom is Canadian but Gaga has often said both her parents are Italian so I think Gaga’s mom also has Italian roots, maybe on one side.

But yeah she’s definitely Italian and she’s obviously very proud about it!

When Americans say that they’re talking about ethnicity, not nationality. When Gaga says she’s Italian it’s understood that she’s talking about ethnically. We all know she’s American.
