Gaga's former stylist Brandon Maxwell has been tapped as lead designer for Walmart brands Scoop and Free Assembly.

Poised to take a plum position at any of Europe's esteemed fashion houses, Maxwell instead opted for a more accessible gig close to home:

“You know, when I launched Brandon Maxwell the idea was to make beautiful clothing that made people feel good and this partnership really gives me the opportunity to do that on a larger scale. High-quality design that’s accessible to all is something that I feel really strongly about and I think everyone should be able to have access to how fashion can make you feel.”

Maxwell says he was also lured to the position at Walmart because of their charitable offer: a $100,000 donation to DonorsChoose.org, which supplies educators with classroom goods (Maxwell's sister is a teacher).

Spoiler

Personally, I think it is kind of hypocritical to talk up a Walmart partnership as if it's anything to brag about ethically. A $100,000 donation is a drop in the bucket compared to their mistreament of employees and unregulated supply chain. But I am looking forward to finally being able to afford access to some Brandon Maxwell workwear. Hopefully he keeps up the structured workwear that he is known for and doesn't start doing wrinkly tshirts and tank tops like Max Azria :cryga:

A $100,000 donation (AKA tax write-off) is not generous for a company that makes a profit of $7,000,000 per hour.

His designs were not it so I’m honestly not surprised. Always so safe, so boring and so uninspiring. Certainly something for Walmart.

Walmart selling Met Gala looks. I want to see this happen. Time to spruce and glam up the people of Walmart.
