Cameltoe Chariot 15,310
Youtube is in a death spiral at this point in terms of community and fandom. I still check my Youtube subs out of habit but it's rare I see something new/worth watching sadly it seems everyone has moved on to short form content like tiktok. I miss Grace Helbig and Mamrie Hart the most. They're both happy and successful in different ways now but man... Youtube is NOTHING like it was 10+ years ago. Guest
Honestly, so what? If you live in one state and work in another state in America you have to pay taxes for both. It relates to America, so you should be paying taxes towards America since an American company is the one that is paying you.
KORG 4,756
Ah, so elderly rich white men don't understand the Internet and thus introduce taxation that kills opportunities. Lovely. Quick question though. What is youtube without creators?

So, since America does a stupid thing that basically no other country does, the rest of the world should be forced to do that thing with them? The only American connection is having American people watch your videos. That’s it. Nothing else. Yet the government is like “lol our people are watching your ads therefore you should pay us money for that even though you already pay money to your local government” Using this logic, anyone who earns money from people buying their work, watching their video, etc from any country should be subjected to those countries taxes too. That would 100% mean people who have an international audience/customers would be OWING money to every country no matter how much they earn. Especially if it’s double taxed 0110100001100101011011000110110001101111

When it's your country asking money back from companies because they're doing tax avoidance everyone is like "yaaaay tax them ! They're making money off our people and don't pay anything" Well here it's the same, international youtubers make money off the American people without them investing back in the country in any kind of way. See this as customs fees. Idk maybe I'm wrong If by “make money off the American people” you mean American people watching their videos, then does that mean they should pay tax towards every country where someone watches their video? or did I misinterpret your point insta: good_lukeing | I have nothing else to promote
homomo 23,883
Like I need to stress how stupid and sad this is. For example, I have a YouTube channel and have been earning all my wages from it during Covid, as I was laid off from my job last March. And it’s been going great. YouTube income in the reason I’m eating, in a home, and actually saving. But with this new policy, it gets very sad. let’s say I earn €1000 in a month from YouTube. I’d put 30% of that into an account that I use to pay taxes and social fees at the end of the year. That would leave me with €700. BUT if my country didn’t have a tax treaty with the US, I’d then be subjected to paying 24% of that total income to the US government (assuming of course most of my viewers are from the US, which is usually the case). That’s an additional €240 off of that €700 - leaving me with €460. Like I’m all for paying taxes. They help fund things such as free education, social housing, and free healthcare in my country. But if I’m getting taxed AGAIN on top of my already taxed income in a country I have zero affiliation with and that benefits me in no way... then I’m going to start having a problem. 0110100001100101011011000110110001101111

The concept of a "Youtuber" is on its way out. Nowadays there are celebrities and influencers who happen to have a Youtube channel.
