Melanie Martinez - Rocking Horse

You can truly tell that Melanie was the absolute main writer on this one, the lyrical flow and wordplay reminds me of After School. This one really took a second before it hit what she was singing about. While I can see where this wouldn’t fit into the album, it’s still an absolute gem she should be proud of. I just hate she can’t have the opportunity to monetize it now.

Yeah I really like how this one is written (besides the chorus being too repetitive), It's a super sad song yet doesn't sound sad!

The chorus really had me go “wow really?” hahaha. The whole song has this Melanie-like flow to it, and then suddenly this sorta generic repetitive pop chorus appears outta nowhere 😂 It just hits weird after how dark the previous lyrics are

Edit: I just realized the song has a ton of rockabye baby references too 😭

So upon having time to read these lyrics, this is probably the darkest song Melanie Martinez has ever written. It appears to be a woman lying to her husband about having a miscarriage, when in fact she had an abortion. I am... insanely shook.

really wish this was released but it's pretty obvious why she decided not to

I guess it doesn't really matter

OMG yasss more pre-Crybaby writing sessions! There was obviously a different vibe that she was playing with at one point. This sounds exactly like Bombs On Monday, 99 Cent Store and Night Mime, and a little bit like Haunted, Unhappy Meal and Blue Knees! Definitely the same writing sessions. I think all these songs were written for her Dollhouse EP before she'd figured out what direction she was gonna take

I'll be myself until they fūcking close the coffin.
