I find it strange that of ALL of the completely inaccurate depictions of people in film over the decades, a black woman playing a white woman is the one that people have a problem with.

They could turn this story into a fairytale, as long as the character is the accurate race.

Let's not pretend like white people playing POC hasn't been called out before. The last decade especially has done so much to raise awareness and created the whole accurate representation movement. That's the very reason people are conflicted about this because it goes against what the woke people have been arguing for in recent years. We can't one day fight for accurate representation and the next day say "oh movies are artistic expressions it doesn't matter who plays her." That's a double standard. This isn't even necessarily my opinion but more facts.

the people disagreeing with this need to accept that they’re racist, and find a way to not be

Then you are racist if you are against Scarlett Johansson playing an asian role

also, as i said before, anne’s story isn’t affected by race. race isn’t a factor in her story.

I'm pretty sure that if Anne was black and happened to be living in England, she wouldn't be royalty....and people wouldn't welcome her and make her a queen, and also her background would be different since she would be from Africa, which would probably mean that she was brought by colonialists to England, to do who knows what, but certainly not royalty activities. So yes, Anne's story is affected by her race, her childhood, her background, her ethnicity, her language and her social status and wealth, and lineage

That was kind of my point. Ppl are arguing that white ppl have been playing back characters for ages but like, i dont think thats ok either

I just find it odd to justify creating a new double standard by reversing an old one they were fighting against in the first place

The only valid argument i hear for this is that POC have had less acting oppurtunities but even so thats a seperate issue to the argument of accuracy that is used

On that aspect of inequality (less acting oppurtunities) thats already slowly being adressed by calling out white ppl playing back characters, and by having more diversity when it comes to fictional characters.

I dont think trying to put a double standard in reverse is the way to go about it

A lot of the new woke, liberal movements have double standards, but that's a separate conversation lol

Could you imagine fumes if white male would be casted as Obama, white Mandela, black Gaga/Madonna, black Trump, white Panther :billie: sometimes SJW try too hard to shape history as it never was, lets settle down and do not shape races/facts.

Yeah i know. Its not a tactic i agree with. I like the intention and the goal behind them but dont think creating new double standards is the way to go imo

They r the most hypocritical people ever. I'm literally done with them and compltely turned off. It's really not simple to have common sense in life, but wokes love mental gymnastics, sometimes they unironically say and think things that are racist themselves but will point their fingers at u and say ur the racist. It's hilarious and annoying at the same time

I do think think they have the right idea at heart but go a little too far sometimes in trying to be woke then get mad if someone doesnt fuly agree with those far ended opinions. I think thats where the balance is lost and many ppl get turned off by it and why it backfires sometimes

I too sometimes get more annoyed with some individuals than anything. Even tho the core ideas of activism still should be pushed and need to be

I have no opinion on this, but this stuck out to me because as of recent there's been plenty of outrage for straight actors playing gay roles, non autistic actors playing autistic role, white actors playing black roles, etc.

At the end of the day, it's not a documentary, so they can do whatever they want  People always tend to be butt-hurt about fiction playing around with history. But you should remember that a film is always an interpretation of reality.

I was speaking to the comments on historical accuracy. People are saying they're upset about this because it would be rewriting history/inaccurate, yet so many stories based on historic events are completely fabricated, and we accept it as long as the lead character's race is depicted accurately?

They're most likely taking creative freedom on Anne Boleyn's life story anyways, why does it matter how she's represented physically?

Strung out for another taste

I understand why people could see this as a double standard because a white actor wouldn’t be considered for the role of say Harriet Tubman, but considering race isn’t a major part of the story and this is a fictionalized reimagining I don’t see a huge problem. To me, this is just like if Romeo or Juliet were played by non-white actors. Phantom of The Opera is set in France, but the phantom has been played by actors of all races, the character is still French. This isn’t rewriting history, and not all films/tv has the same goal in mind.

No we’re not, Asian actors are underrepresented in Hollywood whereas white actresses are not. I am not against the Ghost in the Shell casting, but it’s not racist to think stories about experiences that are explicitly racial ie Harriet Tubman should be authentic, but stories that are basically love stories of historical figures can be more flexible.
