I dissected a cat in high school... it wasn’t thattt bad. But it was only if you chose to take anatomy, so it was optional.

In movies and tv shows I've seen anything from insects, frogs to cats, I guess it depends on the school

but the dissecting idea I think it's just American maybe

The only thing I dissected in school was owl poop and dead frogs in the 7th grade :neyde: the fact that they lied to them and told them it would be frogs is unacceptable.
it does bring back memories of the time the vice principal at my high school found an area in the forested bit behind school filled with dead animal bodies, including some hanging from trees. He called the cops thinking it was some cult, and come to find out it was a setup scene for a project for the forensics class

I'm from Portugal. I remember dissecting worms on my Biology class ( Biological Laboratory Techniques), and if I remember correctly, the teacher dissected a frog and we observe and later identified  the digestive, reproductive, respiratory, etc systems. This was on 1997/1998 when i was on Highschool, I'm old. I don´t know if kids still do it these days, cause many stuff changed since then.

I dissected frogs in high school and I absolutely refused to do it! The teacher told me I had the right to refuse. But kittens???

We did worms and fetal pigs in my high school, but I've never heard of cats being used! I don't really know how to feel about it this story... for a tv show I'm sure they could have gotten away with fake animals :fatcat:

Interesting, yeah usually the teacher did the disgusting stuff in our class or we simply watched a video and whoever couldn't resist just left.

I assumed this is an American school thing, I feel like nobody in Europe (or my country at least) is making pupils dissect cadavers.

I have never dissected an animal in my entire life and I basically had to take the equivalent of "AP Biology" to get my university entrance qualification. The only people who have to do this here are doctors in training, having to dissect human cadavers right at the start of taking up medicine in university and butchers. and i don't really see the sense in dissecting something as a high school student when we got literal models online and IRL. :rip:

yeah exactly, it's traumatic, as pupils we barely resist some graphic stories about wars like from WW2, I literally passed out in history lesson once because it was too much graphic :emma: so to dissect an animal, sometimes alive??? no way!!

Why is this news???

Did y’all not do dissections in high school? We did pig fetuses and plenty of people did cat fetuses.

In a real school it’s normal, but the cast shouldn’t have been misinformed about what they would be doing.

My school just did frogs (though I didn’t touch it and let my group do it), but if we had to dissect a cat or pig I would’ve opted out - so you can’t blame the cast for being uncomfortable.

Like... it's such unabashed American puritanism. "Sex education in biology? How frivolous and immoral, instead we're chopping up the cadavers of kittens and pull out their innards. Also, don't forget to wash down your hot dog at lunch with some chocolate syrup Larry!" :deadbanana:

Bloody hooker

When I was in high school, we dissected owl feces, frogs, and squids to find the ink sacs.

I’m not surprised that kittens are used. The surprising part is the fact that they told everyone that frogs would be used, but used kittens. Let alone real kittens for a TV show.

This mutual gaze was a “longing to touch” or a "pre-coitus" stare.
