Governor Ron Desantis’ “Seniors First” vaccination program is turning into “Publix First.”

There has been much scrutiny as to why Desantis has chosen Publix exclusively over other major pharmacies like Walgreens, Walmart, CVS, as other states have.

In December, Publix donated $100,000 to the Friends of Ron DeSantis political action committee, as reported by the Miami New Times. DeSantis’ office denied that the donation played any role in Publix receiving its vaccine role, telling the Lakeland Ledger that those claims were “baseless and ridiculous.”

In a press release yesterday, Publix announced that individuals needed to bring their insurance cards with them to their appointments. Many asked why this was since the vaccine is supposed to be free. Although it is of no cost to the consumer to go and get the shot, Publix is billing insurance companies for payment.

A quick rundown of the money flow here.

Publix donates $100,000 to DeSantis in December.

DeSantis decides, despite it being less effective and far fewer people can get vaccinated, Publix will supply Florida's vaccines instead of the healthcare providers.

Publix is billing Medicare and insurance companies for the vaccines ($16.94 and $28.39 for both doses, a total of $45.33).

If all 65+ seniors in Florida (4.5 million people) get vaccinated through Publix, they make $204,000,000 from Medicare and insurance companies from a vaccine that's meant to be free.

We can assume a good chunk of that money will be going right into this scumbag's pockets.

I read other article few weeks ago that during the beginning of vaccination process, Florida encourages vaccine travel where a lot of people from out of state can get vaccine without having to be Florida resident, that was around the time Grump was still in office. But right now, everyone need to show their ID to prove their are local resident to get vaccinated.

Isn't Publix a grocery store? I saw them everywhere when I was in West Palm Beach for work a few years ago.

Yeah, but they have a pharmacy in most (if not all) stores too.

To be fair, Publix is one of the biggest stores in Florida. They have way more Publix than they do Walgreens.

That doesn't excuse the blatant corruption here or the fact that a Department of Health site can take 1500-3000 appointments for vaccinations while a Publix pharmacy can only take 125 appointments a day, maximum.

Everyone is collecting insurance information. It’s a higher reimbursement than the government provides. This is normal practice, nothing out of the ordinary there.
 

It’s always free though, never any charge for the vaccine.

Likely so that they can donate to him again too.

It's funny, Rick Scott (former governor, now senator) committed Medicare fraud when he was CEO of Columbia/HCA and they were fined 1.7 billion dollars for it.

This is like a stupider but just as morally corrupt knockoff.

The Democrats need to get an actual ground game down here. Florida should be easy to win. DeSantis and Scott both won by tiny margins despite the left's disorganization.
